Three years ago, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey was leading Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson to the national title. Since then, however, the relationship between Mulkey’s former players has gone downhill, with Reese going viral last month after snubbing Johnson’s attempt to shake hands with her during an Atlanta-Seattle game.
The Storm ended up winning that matchup 105-90. When the two teams met for their second regular season game this year, Mulkey was at Gateway Center to catch up with the two LSU products. In a viral clip from the teams’ pre-game preparations, the Tigers head coach takes a picture with both Reese and Johnson by her side.
Interestingly, the clip doesn’t show Reese and Johnson conversing with each other. There’s one moment, though, where Reese walks away from Mulkey after her former head coach appears to bring Johnson into their conversation.
This clip has led fans to react to the interaction (or lack thereof) between Reese and Johnson. Other netizens, meanwhile, commented on Mulkey’s role in this whole scene.
The history between Reese and Johnson is complicated, to say the least. Though they won a national championship alongside each other, both have admitted in separate interviews that their friendship has gone down the drain since that title campaign.
In 2024, Reese said on her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast that she and Johnson weren’t “as close as we used to be.” The following year, Johnson said in a radio interview that “stuff happens” and that she and Reese are “not friends.”

In any case, Angel Reese was laser-focused in the Thursday night matchup against the Storm. Finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Reese helped the Dream secure an 89-78 win.
This performance marked Reese’s 64th double-double, which allowed her to surpass Tina Charles for most double-doubles in a player’s first three WNBA seasons.
Reese also kept alive her streak of games with double-doubles. This is now the 15th consecutive game that the three-time WNBA All-Star has finished with a double-double.
