In the weeks leading up to the 2026 WNBA season’s tip-off, fans are looking forward to seeing Caitlin Clark once again suit up for the Indiana Fever. This week, Clark’s head coach gave an encouraging update on her preparations for the upcoming season.
Appearing on the “Query & Company” radio show, Stephanie White detailed the preparations that CC has been immersing herself in.
“She has worked her butt off this whole offseason to prepare herself. We have an added advantage in that she played games in March with USA basketball. She has game exposure, game pace, game rhythm, game timing.”
White added that the Fever is taking a cautious approach to ensure that Caitlin Clark can withstand the heavy physical toll of the upcoming season.
“We also want to be smart…It’s a long season, 44 games, and we play a heavy cadence of games in a week…We want to make sure that we manage the reps and what kind of reps she’s getting.”
After a sensational rookie season with the Fever in 2024, Clark was touted as a potential MVP candidate in her second year. However, various injuries hounded her, keeping her on the sidelines for much of the 2025 campaign, including the Fever’s entire playoff run.
But White is on point when she says that Clark’s Team USA stint last month was helpful in terms of allowing the two-time WNBA All-Star to get her groove back. Having gotten plenty of rest and recovery over the past several months, Clark is looking to bounce back big time in her third WNBA season.
Fever HC Comments on Backcourt Depth After Team Selects Former Caitlin Clark Foe at 2026 WNBA Draft
To the Fever’s credit, they’re taking measures to get Caitlin Clark plenty of help in their backcourt. After the team drafted South Carolina guard Raven Johnson at the 2026 WNBA draft, White commented on the depth that the Fever have at the guard positions.
“I think it gives us some versatility,” White said of Johnson’s acquisition. “Thankfully, having a couple of different guards gives us the ability to allow Kelsey to rest a little bit, too.”
The selection of Johnson has been a trending topic on social media, as she had an infamous moment three years ago when Clark waved her off and opted not to defend her in their March Madness matchup. It will be interesting to see how Johnson and Clark jell in the Fever’s backcourt.
