Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese clashed for the first time this season on Thursday. Clark’s Indiana Fever got the better of Reese’s Atlanta Dream, winning 83-71.
Clark did not have her best game, but she still scored 17 points despite health concerns. Clark got sick and threw up near the bench before the start of the second half. After the game, she explained the reason.
“Yeah, I mean, a little sick,” she told reporters. “I don’t know, I tried to eat some apple sauce and then it just came up, and then everything else in my stomach came up. So, I thought I was gonna stay down but I found a trash can thank god. I haven’t puked that much in a really long time. I kinda feel fine. I feel light. So I was running around feeling good in the second half.”
Kelsey Mitchell scored 25 points while Aliyah Boston had 19 points and seven rebounds as the Fever snapped a two-game losing streak.
Stephanie White’s team has had its fair share of struggles this season, but this win could kickstart a resurgence in form.
Caitlin Clark on her shooting display vs Atlanta
Caitlin Clark scored 17 points and added seven rebounds and eight assists. However, her shooting was off. She went 6-for-17 from the field, including 2-for-8 from 3-point range.
During the post-game media availability, she addressed her performance.
“I would have loved to have shot the ball better,” Clark admitted. “Even if a couple more go down. Other than that, this was one of the best games I played in a really long time.”
Clark said she guarded well, was aggressive on defense, and helped her teammates.
The Fever (5-4) face the New York Liberty on Saturday.
