For much of the second half of the 2025-2026 college basketball season, Flau’jae Johnson has been projected as the fifth overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, with the Chicago Sky expected to select her. Recently, though, her level of play has sparked conversations among fans who believe she is trying to improve her draft stock and possibly positioning herself to land elsewhere.
Johnson delivered a standout performance in LSU’s 101-47 win over Texas Tech in the second round of NCAA March Madness, scoring 24 points on 9-13 shooting from the field. Since the 2024 tournament, she has recorded seven 20-point games in just nine March Madness appearances.
Through the first two games of this year’s tournament, she is averaging 22.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. That surge has fueled speculation among fans that her recent dominance is not just about winning, but also about improving her draft position and possibly avoiding Chicago.
“Flau’jae said she not going to f**king Chicago 😭😭,” @BeyLegos wrote.
“Cause that team fucking sucks😂. Why would she want to go play with mebounds?” @Sunny083193 said.
Of course, Sky fans did not take these remarks well and promptly retaliated.
“Good we don’t need her or her ghetto ass mama near my goat,” @bye_whoree wrote.
“Thank God!!!! She not the help chicago is looking for,” @Nomeprecious wrote.
“She wouldn’t be much of a help to Chicago anyway.. What would they do with another inconsistent/unpredictable guard????????😭😭,”@_RareBreed94 said.
“Happy to hear this. I don’t think Chicago was checking for her inconsistent ass anyway,” @beyonceangelR said.
Flau’jae Johnson and her #2 LSU will next face the #3 Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet 16 of the campaign at the Golden 1 Center on Thursday.
Flau’jae Johnson spent two years as Angel Reese’s teammate
It’s easy to see why some fans on social media think Flau’jae Johnson might be trying to avoid getting drafted by the Chicago Sky. She has been open about her relationship with Angel Reese and how they are no longer friends, mentioning that issues in the locker room and media pressure played a role in their fallout.
That said, if you focus purely on what they did on the court, their partnership at LSU was incredibly successful. During their two seasons together with the Tigers, the duo averaged a combined 33.8 points and 20.1 rebounds per game. They also played a major part in leading the team to a national championship in 2023.
