“Isn’t Complicated” Stacey Dales Shreds Referee For Not Awarding Caitlin Clark With And-1 Before Fever Star’s Outburst

Thanks in large part to a letter from members of the U.S. Congress, the physicality that Caitlin Clark plays through has been thrust in the limelight. Now, more than ever, opinions on CC’s bumps and bruises are coming in hot on social media.

Watching the Golden State Valkyries-Indiana Fever game on Wednesday, analyst and one-time WNBA All-Star Stacey Dales called out the officials for what was supposedly a blatant miss.

“Absolute AND-1 for CC right there. Held down by the right arm of the defender. That’s an easy call. That wasn’t called. This isn’t complicated.”

While a number of fans and analysts have spoken in defense of Clark in these situations, the Fever star herself had a bone to pick with the referees in this 88-75 loss to the Valkyries.

Late in the second quarter, Clark came crashing down on the baseline after converting on a layup. Replays showed that CC’s lower extremities may have collided with the knee of Valkyries center Kiah Stokes.

During a dead ball situation in the next possession, Clark got in the face of referee Gerda Gatling and animatedly spoke her mind. Despite this outburst, Clark received only a warning for resentment to a non-call.

Since Clark’s altercation with Alyssa Thomas in a June 24 Fever-Mercury game, more attention has been drawn to the physicality that she plays through in the WNBA. On this night, however, it appears that CC was far from satisfied with the referees’ calls and non-calls on her defenders.

During the post-game media session, Caitlin Clark minced no words as she addressed the non-call on Stokes.

Yet again, Clark had something to say about the quality of the officiating.

“I got kneed right in the quad. That hurts. The ref can’t miss that. And then I have to play with a contusion in my leg the rest of the game. It’s ridiculous.”

Clark, though, credited the Valkyries for limiting the Fever’s production, calling them “probably the best defensive team in the league.”
