Las Vegas Aces guard Chennedy Carter took offense at critics mocking her online for losing her duel against the Dallas Wings’ No. 1 pick Azzi Fudd on Thursday. Carter finished with 14 points in 19 minutes on 6 of 11 shots. Meanwhile, Fudd had 22 points on 9 of 15 shots in 37 minutes in her starting debut.
A few fans supported the Wings rookie on Threads and called out the Aces guard for jawing at the former UConn star. One fan even claimed that Aces coach Becky Hammon benched and limited Carter to only 19 minutes because of her struggles against Fudd.
On Friday, after one supporter of the Aces veteran clapped back at the trolls, Carter joined the conversation with a shot at Fudd.
“Not to mention, I made her ankle touch the ground,” Carter said. “But y’all can hollar at me when my leash is off, too. It’s completely unfair, even though statistically, it’s not even close.”

Fudd outplayed Carter on Thursday, but for the season, the veteran has been better. Carter is averaging 19.1 points on 64.6% shooting, including 56.3% from the 3-point range. She leads the league in bench scoring by 5.1 points.
Meanwhile, Fudd is averaging 12.6 ppg on 57.1% shooting, including 46.4% from 3-point range. She’s the only rookie to record multiple games with 22 points or more.
Becky Hammon fumes as Chennedy Carter shoots zero free throws vs. Azzi Fudd’s Wings
Aces coach Becky Hammon wasn’t impressed with Las Vegas shooting fewer free throws than the Dallas Wings in Thursday’s 95-87 loss. The Aces shot 12 compared to the Wings’ 22. While Hammon didn’t take credit away from the Wings for playing aggressively enough, she felt the whistle was unfair.
She also pointed out that Chennedy Carter, A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young had combined for one free throw compared to Wings backup center Awak Kuier, who shot four. Wilson was the one to attempt that free throw while Carter and Young finished with zero attempts.
“A’ja Wilson shoots one free throw. Chennedy Carter, zero, Jackie Young, zero … I’m not saying they didn’t earn their 22, but when Awak Kuier shoots more free throws than A’ja, Jackie and Chennedy all combined, that’s a problem. We are not getting the same whistle. Give me my fine,” Hammon said.
The Aces led by 13 points just before halftime. However, the Wings tightened things up in the second half to complete a 21-point turnaround. Azzi Fudd scored a team-high 13 points in the last two quarters, shooting 5-for-7 from the field, tying Jessica Shepard, who also had 12 rebounds and five assists in that stretch.
On the other hand, A’ja Wilson’s 12 points were the best the Aces got out of any player in that stretch. Chennedy Carter struggled as she scored only two of her 14 in that period, shooting 1-for-4.
