Chennedy Carter has been at the center of attention over the past two days. On Monday, she went viral for allegedly removing the Las Vegas Aces from her Instagram bio and replacing it with free agent. As several fans grabbed a screenshot of it, Carter apparently changed it back.

However, the speculation regarding her potential departure from Las Vegas grew again after she was listed out for the Aces’ showdown against the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday. Carter is out citing illness.
Most fans may not be looking at the situation objectively, but the timing of Carter’s absence makes things look suspicious, especially after her alleged bio change.
Here’s what one fan wrote:
“‘Illness’ = waiting to be traded.”
Another cited her exit from the Chicago Sky in 2024, saying:
“Didn’t something similar happen with the Sky as the end was near? Tick Tock.”
One fan assessed Carter’s “downfall’ saying:
“Ever since she took to instagram and twitter it was downhill. Sad thing is she was balling, but she can’t get out her own way. The thing is the Aces gonna win regardless.”
Another X user added:
“Has weird feels for sure. Hope to see her back out there.”
One fan wrote:
“This is crazy. Definitely not an illness.”
One fan compared her situation to DeWanna Bonner when she left the Indiana Fever last year, while missing the last few games, citing personal absence:
“She pulling a DB.”
Chennedy Carter’s Aces Tenure Has Looked Wonky Since She Feuded With Azzi Fudd And Wings Fans
Chennedy Carter didn’t find a suitor last season despite a solid run with the Sky. Many fans believed teams avoided signing her due to her negative impact in the locker room. According to WNBA reporter Annie Costabile’s January 2025 report, the Sky didn’t sign her due to behavioral issues.
“According to multiple league sources, players were unhappy with the dynamic created in the locker room last year due to Carter’s behavior, which went unchecked by former coach Teresa Weatherspoon,” Costabile wrote. “There was concern within the team regarding how re-signing Carter would impact the Sky’s chances of landing other free agents.”
After a one-year hiatus, Carter returned with the defending champions, the Aces. Many believed Becky Hammon and the Aces veterans would create the kind of environment that could help Carter thrive. It went just as expected in the first few weeks, as Carter averaged 20.0 points and 1.5 steals in the opening six games. She shot 66.7% from the field and 58.3% from deep.
However, since the May 28 game against the Dallas Wings, which Las Vegas lost 95-87, things have gone downhill for Carter. She had 14 points on 6 of 11 shots, but played a season-low 19 minutes. A fan went at her on Threads, claiming that Hammon benched her after Carter struggled against Azzi Fudd.
Carter clapped back by mocking Fudd, pointing out that her best highlights came against the No. 1 pick. At the same time, A’ja Wilson allegedly liked a post that called out Carter for going at Fudd.
Since that controversy, Chennedy Carter suffered an injury against the Golden State Valkyries on May 31, in which she played only nine minutes. Carter returned on Thursday against the Portland Fire, in which she played eight minutes in a 105-89 win. She suited up against the Minnesota Lynx in the next outing on Saturday and played only eight minutes.
Carter will miss her second straight game with illness. Against the Wings, she wasn’t listed out just because of the health issue, but Las Vegas reported that she wasn’t with the team. That’s the case again ahead of the Mercury matchup.
