Cari Champion recently gave her flowers to Caitlin Clark for bringing more attention to the WNBA. The analyst’s statement came after Olivia Miles put the league on notice with her all-around performance this season. Even in the absence of Napheesa Collier, who is out after her double ankle surgeries, the former TCU Horned Frogs standout has kept the Minnesota Lynx afloat. And Champion gave her thoughts on the rookie’s breakout.
Miles dropped a career-high of her short 16-game career thus far in the WNBA, with 31 points in 26 minutes against the Los Angeles Sparks. She went 12-15 from the field and led the Lynx to a 99-83 win.
Featuring on her show, “Flagrant and Funny w/ Cari Champion & Jemele Hill,” Champion took notice of Miles’ Rookie of the Year campaign and a stellar game against the Sparks and said:
“It’s just really special to watch what she’s been doing. And we’re talking about a game that she had against the Sparks… I think it really is significant in how she plays with such ease and how she’s also bringing different eyes to the game, which leads me to a bigger point. We want to, we wanna thank that Nova Caitlin Clark for bringing all of her people to the league.”
The WNBA insider went on to emphasize that the league always had the talent, but with the right attention and marketing, a big credit of which goes to Caitlin Clark’s popularity, players like Olivia Miles get the love and respect they deserve.
Even though Clark brought a lot of attention through her explosive perimeter shooting and basketball IQ, she is facing a difficult phase in her career. That drop in form has also churned rumors about her relationship with Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White. However, she has been repeatedly clear about her thoughts on Steph.
Caitlin Clark opens up about her relationship with HC Stephanie White
Caitlin Clark, in an interview with Malika Andrews of ESPN, got candid about her bond with Fever coach Stephanie White. When the analyst asked her if she was easy to coach, the Fever guard said:
“I think I’m easy to coach, and Steph would say the same thing. And I think at times maybe difficult too because I don’t think there’s many people that get guarded the way I do. So I think you gotta be creative scheme-wise. But I don’t think there’s a better person to do that than Coach Steph, I love Coach Steph.”
Clark also addressed the viral moment during the Fever’s game against the Portland Fire and said that White has the same “competitive fire” as she does. Even though that enthusiasm to win sometimes leads them to go head-to-head in a few situations, she claimed that she loved her coach.
Caitlin Clark once again became the center of talk after the team’s loss to the Atlanta Dream, in which she couldn’t score a single point in the fourth quarter due to her foul troubles. The Fever are still far from the form they expected from their squad for now, as they prepare for a rematch with Angel Reese’s Dream.
