Jason Whitlock has seemingly changed sides after Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever’s 108-101 loss to Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream on Thursday night. Earlier, the basketball analyst publicly backed the Fever superstar when several other analysts berated Clark for her constant altercations with officials. However, in his latest statement, Whitlock criticized the Fever guard for her reaction to the officiating.
Clark could not get on the board in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble, with Indiana eventually losing by a margin of seven points. Whitlock called out Clark’s crunch-time showing against the Dream on X, comparing the incidents when Clark received the fourth foul to when Reese was given her fourth. He wrote:
“Angel Reese had a great game — 21 and 11. But the best thing she did was not meltdown into a multiple, F-bomb tirade when she picked up her fourth foul and aggravate the officiating crew. Maturity.”
However, a Clark fan did not agree with Whitlock and defended Clark, going as far as demanding an apology for the guard, writing:
“If CC is being called for fouls that don’t exist, and receives fouls that no one is being called for, what do you call it when you paint her as immature?
You are slandering her and casting a deceptive image of what is really going on! You need to change your thinking (repent) and publicly apologize to Caitlin Clark!”
Whitlock replied to the fan, saying that the user should also see through Clark’s overall image and leave her “cult” following, given her constant troubles on the court. The analyst wrote:
“Take her off the cross, man. This is sickening. Leave the cult.
I really really liked CC. But I can’t unsee the immaturity, the constant meltdowns and profanity. The lack of emotional growth. The overreaction to every bad foul call. Officiating is inconsistent and bad across the league.
Idolatry makes fools of us all.”
When another Caitlin Clark fan responded in the comments and highlighted what was going on with the 2024 WNBA ROTY, Whitlock responded once again, writing:
“When you’re making the same argument as Al Sharpton defending “Teen” Takeovers, you’ve lost the script, buddy.
You’ve replaced “systemic ra*ism” with “systemic anti-Catlinism.” They no longer exist.
Caitlin is her own worst enemy. Caitlin Fatigue is real.”
Jason Whitlock was also slammed by other analysts like Dan Dakich, who called out Clark for her antics with officials. For now, the Fever will have to figure out a solution to the Caitlin Clark situation.
Caitlin Clark limited by foul trouble in fourth quarter against the Dream
Caitlin Clark was having a great game, keeping the Fever alive through the first three quarters, scoring 26 points and dishing out seven assists. However, her offensive production completely disappeared in the last period, as she just attempted one field goal and missed it.
Most of it was because of her foul trouble, because she picked up her fifth foul when there were eight minutes of play left and spent most of the game on the bench from there. The Fever were finally looking comfortable after a topsy-turvy start to their season. Clark still looks far from herself, and that has shown in the team’s performance.
