On Thursday, Marina Mabrey wowed the WNBA community with a scintillating 53-point performance against the LA Sparks. This is tied for the highest single-game scoring output (an honor that the Toronto Tempo veteran holds with A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage), and it’s also the highest scoring game by a guard in the WNBA.
As the final buzzer sounded on the Tempo’s 125-97 win, social media was full with an outpour of support for Mabrey. Some fans went so far as to invoke the name of other WNBA stars in light of Mabrey’s latest explosion.
On this night, Mabrey went 17-for-28 from the field and made a whopping nine out of her 18 three-point attempts. She also finished with six rebounds and two assists.
The Tempo (9-9) have a long way to go before establishing themselves a legit playoff contender in their debut season. But, on this night, the team’s latest win was overshadowed by a generational performance from Mabrey.
