UConn Legend Swin Cash Goes at Caitlin Clark For High Usage in Loss to Angel Reese’s Dream

UConn legend Swin Cash ripped into Caitlin Clark for not allowing her teammates to find a rhythm. Cash made the remarks after the Indiana Fever lost 108-101 to the Atlanta Dream on Thursday. Clark had 26 points, seven assists and five turnovers on 8 of 17 shots. She went scoreless in the fourth quarter after picking up her fifth foul and being limited to five minutes of action.

In her absence, the Fever went off on a 9-0 run to tie the game 93-93. Once Clark returned, Indiana conceded a six-point run. Cash appeared critical of Clark’s usage while dishing her take during the post-game segment on Amazon Prime.

“Sometimes, when you get into a situation where the ball stays in her hands a little bit longer, there are stretches where other players aren’t getting any touches,” the former UConn and WNBA star said.

Here’s the video of Cash’s segment on Prime clipped by X user @Hero_OfThe_Day:

Caitlin Clark had a game-high usage rate of 35.5%. Aliyah Boston was second with a usage of 28.8%, while Kelsey Mitchell was third at 22.2%. The Fever’s offense did stagnate on a few occasions, but the Atlanta Dream’s pesky defense also deserved credit. They didn’t allow Clark to get open, contested all shots, and closed her passing windows.

Caitlin Clark accepts turnovers and defensive mistakes

Caitlin Clark accepted that she and the Fever’s guards could have been better on Thursday. Two key aspects Clark pointed out were turnovers leading to transition points for the Dream and the backcourt failing to contain the drives. She also criticized the team’s rotations once the Dream players blew past the front line.

“How many fast break points (for them), 17? So that’s, you know, probably that right there contributed to it,” Clark said (via Indiana Fever YouTube). “Points off turnovers … I thought a lot of the times, like that’s probably on us guards (not) getting into the ball a bit better, so we don’t have to rotate, but I think we could have done a little bit better.”

Clark felt the lack of rotations allowed the Dream to score off cuts. She added that all of the Dream’s players shooting over 50.0% also contributed to the loss, and there was nothing the Fever could do about it.
