“Caitlin Clark Lives Rent Free in Those Edges”: Fans Blast Cotie McMahon For Mocking Iowa State After Second-Round Exit

Caitlin Clark graduated from Iowa roughly two years ago but remains a central character in almost everything about the Hawkeyes women’s basketball.

On Monday, No. 2 Iowa lost 83-75 to No. 10 Virginia in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Ole Miss forward Cotie McMahon, who seemingly dislikes the Hawkeyes, tweeted a laughing emoji after Virginia pulled off the upset.

McMahon’s post drew reactions from fans. One fan wrote:

“Caitlin Clark lives rent-free in those edges…”

    Another fan added:

“CC finna drop 40 on whatever team draft this girl son i’m crying.”

    One more fan continued:

“Girl, you got eliminated too. What are we laughing at?”

    Another fan reacted:

“Ain’t you a second round exit too?”

    One fan tweeted:

“Iowa girlie got s**t up her sleeves for you W debut.”

Fans mocked Cotie McMahon after Ole Miss also lost its second-round game to Minnesota. The Buckeyes’ senior forward spent the last four minutes on the bench after fouling out. Without her, the Rebels wilted, allowing the Golden Gophers to win 65-63 in overtime.

The loss to Minnesota ended McMahon’s career without a Final Four appearance. Her best finish in the NCAA tournament was in 2023 when she was still with Ohio State. The Buckeyes went out of the Elite Eight after an 84-74 loss to No. 1 Virginia Tech.

McMahon, during her stint with Ohio State, played against Caitlin Clark in the superstar point guard’s last two years in Iowa. She had a front row ticket to some of Clark’s most impressive and dazzling displays.

In March 2024, a game viewed by millions, Clark dropped 35 points against the Buckeyes to surpass the legendary Pete Maravich as the NCAA Division 1’s all-time leading scorer. More importantly, she led her team to a 93-83 win over the No. 2-ranked school.

Caitlin Clark Beat Cotie McMahon and Co. In Her Final Historic Game Against Ohio State

Caitlin Clark played Ohio State twice during the 2023-24 season, her final collegiate campaign. In the first meeting in late January 2024, she erupted for 45 points on 12-for-25 shooting, 7-for-18 from deep and 14-for-16 from the 3-point line. Despite her explosive night, Iowa lost 100-92.

In the rematch in early March, Clark and her teammates finally got their revenge. She dropped 35 points, helping No. 6 Iowa pull off the upset against No. 2 Ohio State.

In her final home game for the Hawkeyes, Caitlin Clark rewrote the record books by overtaking Pete Maravich for the all-time career points record. Cotie McMahon was on the floor when Clark made two free throws to take over Maravich’s spot in NCAA Div. 1 all-time scoring history.
