“I’m So Glad I Got My Nails Done for This”: Sophie Cunningham Adds Fuel To DeWanna Bonner Drama With Cheeky Comment After Viral Confrontation

The Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham engaged in a heated altercation with the Phoenix Mercury’s DeWanna Bonner on Monday. Cunningham stepped in to protect Caitlin Clark, who got into it with Bonner.

Clark led the Fever to an 86-77 win against a struggling Mercury, with 24 points and nine assists. However, tensions flared in the fourth quarter when Clark and Bonner got into a tussle. Cunningham then jumped into and faced off with Bonner, with the two players pointing at each other.

After the win, Cunningham posted a cheeky comment on social media:

“I’m so glad I got my nails done for this.”

Cunningham lives for these moments. She is often seen defending Clark when players try to pressure the superstar on the court.

Cunningham is averaging 9.9 points, shooting 48.5% from the field, including 40.6% from deep. The Fever got a much-needed win against the Mercury after suffering consecutive losses against the Atlanta Dream.

“Sometimes That’s Part Of The Game” – Sophie Cunningham Unfazed After On-Court Tussle With DeWanna Bonner

Sophie Cunningham talked about the on-court tussle with DeWanna Bonner in the post-game media session. She was unfazed by the incident and stated that it was just part of the game.

“It’s fine, you know, I think sometimes that’s part of the game. And we kept our heads. I think we could have stopped it a bit sooner, but at the end of the day, we kept our heads so the ball game went well and that’s what we need to do.”

While Myisha Hines-Allen was given her second technical foul and ejected from the game, Clark was given her fifth tech of the season for clapping after the incident. Eight techs lead to a player getting suspended for one game.

The Fever are 10-7 and face the Mercury again on Wednesday.
