“Old and Jealous”: Caitlin Clark Fans Bash Tiffany Hayes and Natasha Mack For Opposing Alyssa Thomas’ Suspension

WNBA veterans Tiffany Hayes and Natasha Mack angered Caitlin Clark’s fans after the duo expressed support for Alyssa Thomas following her one-game suspension on Thursday. Thomas was punished after making contact with Clark’s neck during Wednesday’s game between the Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever.

The incident occurred in the second quarter after Thomas and Clark jostled for the ball with the Fever star on the floor. The referees didn’t review the incident, but after significant online outrage, the WNBA suspended Thomas.

Hayes and Mack backed Thomas on Threads.

“It’s FREE AT until AT FREE!! 🗣️ standing with my bestie 🤞🏾,” Mack wrote.

“Did you know organizations often interpret rules differently when millions of dollars are at stake?” Hayes said.

Given the nature of Thomas’ actions and the WNBA’s response, Clark’s fans found it odd that Hayes and Mack publicly supported the Mercury player.

Here are some of the reactions:

DiJonai Carrington retweets posts calling for fair treatment for Alyssa Thomas over Caitlin Clark incident

DiJonai Carrington was another veteran who questioned Alyssa Thomas’ punishment on Thursday. Unlike Tiffany Hayes and Natasha Mack, Carrington didn’t directly address the issue, but retweeted posts that tried to prove Thomas’ innocence.

The first was a real-time angle of the incident, opposed to the viral video, which was replayed and slowed down. The other post called out Sophie Cunningham for pulling Jacy Sheldon’s hair after a hard foul last season.

Carrington was a teammate of Thomas two years ago on the Sun. They faced Clark and the Fever in the first round of the playoffs that year and swept Indiana 2-0.

Carrington was also involved in a similar controversy after a physical battle with Clark. She avoided foul trouble after poking Clark in the eye on a closeout. Both players dismissed it as unintentional, but the issue caught fire among WNBA media and fans.
