Azzi Fudd Makes Massive Basketball Career Decision By Joining $5 Billion League

Rookie sensation Azzi Fudd gets to play at a unique time in women’s basketball, when more than one startup is making waves as an alternative to the WNBA.

On Friday, Fortune’s Emma Hinchliffe reported that the Dallas Wings guard will be joining the international league known as Project B. Founded by former Facebook executive Grady Burnett and Skype co-founder Geoff Prentice, Project B has already drawn the commitment of players like Nneka Ogwumike, Jonquel Jones, and Sophie Cunningham.

Fudd confirmed this news when she posted an Instagram video showing her and her dog Stewie taking a stroll along various international locations. The video ended with a graphic that read “Project B 2027.”

Fudd reportedly chose Project B over Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 league launched by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier in January 2025. Valued at $340 million late last year, Unrivaled has two seasons under its belt, even starting a multi-city tour that began in Philadelphia this past January.

Project B is just as, if not more, ambitious with its scope. According to a report from Bloomberg last year, this league set out to raise as much $5 billion as a global basketball entity. Its investors include three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker, former Super Bowl MVP Steve Young, and tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Sloane Stephens.

Fudd’s latest announcement gives Project B even more star power that can carry it to the future. Indeed, her decision to join this league could set the stage for more young prospects to follow suit.

On social media, fans are buzzing about Azzi Fudd’s decision to forgo Unrivaled and commit to Project B instead. One reporter believes that he’s found the key to unlocking Fudd’s thought process in this situation.

According to Grant Young of Sports Illustrated, Fudd is taking her lead from Steph Curry, who recently signed a 10-year, $400 endorsement deal with Chinese company Li-Ning.

“He’s the best example of a modern American athlete expanding his brand overseas…Fudd is clearly following Curry’s blueprint. [0:33]”

It’s worth noting that Fudd was a former participant in Curry’s SC30 Select Camp when she was a 15-year-old hooper. Last year, Fudd joined the Golden State Warriors superstar when he traveled to China for his Curry Brand World Tour.
