Angel Reese has done it again. Another record night and another milestone. The Atlanta Dream dropped Saturday’s game 78-75 against the Golden State Valkyries. But Reese recorded a double-double of 15 points, 12 rebounds and six steals in the loss.
With her six steals in the game, Reese recorded the most steals in a game by a center this season. She could have had more had she not been on the bench for lengthy periods of time in the fourth quarter.
Long known for her rebounding ability, Reese has taken another step this year by turning smart steals into production. She’s averaging 1.5 steals this season.
The trade from Chicago to Atlanta is maybe the best thing that could have happened to Reese’s career. Her game has gone to the next level this season. She’s averaging a double-double, leads the league in rebounds, and the season hasn’t even reached the halfway mark.
She’s also making a strong case of winning Defensive Player of the Year honors. While the Dream have several stars, such as Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray, there’s no doubt that Reese is the driving force of the team’s incredible 12-6 record.
The league will have the final say after the regular season on who is the player adjudged to be the DPOY, but if they take the vote right now, Reese would be the frontrunner.
Angel Reese and Atlanta Suffer First Two-Game Losing Streak Of The Season
For the first time all season, Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream suffered their first consecutive loss, and both came at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries. The two teams played on Wednesday at the Chase Center, where the Valkyries won 77-66.
With the loss, Atlanta’s record drops to 12-6, but they still hold the top slot in the Eastern Conference, just 0.5 games behind the New York Liberty. Games like this are staples early in the season. The Dream had their game pretty evenly spread out. They all had some really good moments, and there were some mistakes as well. All of them will be better off for having games like this under their belt.
Up next, they hit Seattle to face the Storm before facing the Washington Mystics, followed by a four-game homestand.
