Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are going through a rough phase in the WNBA. The shooting range, playmaking and flair that Clark is known for aren’t there yet, despite being 10 games into the season.
The Fever are 5-5, but the recent string of losses, lack of team chemistry and a heated argument that Clark had with Indiana coach Stephanie White during the game against Portland have made things worse.
Now there are rumors about Caitlin Clark that we didn’t think we would hear. Fans are claiming that she’s unhappy in Indiana, some reports suggest that White will be fired soon and others are saying that she will get traded.
The Fever caught a break amid the chaos with their 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream, but lost 75-83 to New York in the next game.
Analyst Rachel Annamarie DeMita shared her thoughts Sunday on the Fever drama and refuted the conspiracy theories.
“There’s a ton of conspiracies right now,” she said. “There’s a lot of discourse right now around Caitlin and sabotage. … Guys, I really think we all need to calm down. … The biggest reason being Caitlin Clark has come out multiple times and told us, media, fans, everyone that she’s happy, she loves the coaching staff, she feels healthy.”
DeMita said that the rumors about Clark potentially going to the Sparks have no substance, and people are just making things up to make the situation more chaotic. Her overall take on the subject is that the discourse, fueled by conspiracy theories, has gone too far.
DeMita also said that Caitlin Clark is the face of the league and a superstar, so if she doesn’t feel like playing for the Fever anymore, she can choose to leave because she has that much power in the league.
Caitlin Clark on Handling Online Rumors
This was one of the points Annamarie DeMita made in her video: that Caitlin Clark has publicly said that the rumors are not rooted in reality. During a news conference, the superstar said that her team is not bothered by what’s being said online.
“I mean, I don’t really know why we’re still on this. … We don’t blatantly sit there and talk about everything you guys were writing and what’s in the media. We’re just talking about how we can be better as a team, and that means that we’re good,” she said.
Caitlin Clark said that the team’s priority is backing each other up and getting better as the season progresses.
