Former NFL quarterback Archie Manning opened up about the spotlight on his grandson Arch Manning. According to Archie, Arch’s season was made more difficult by the pressure the media placed on him.
“I was kind of disappointed in a lot of people. The whole thing,” Archie was quoted as saying by Noah Gross of KXAN News. “They kind of crowned Arch before he ever played. I just didn’t think that was fair.
“But I’ve never been more proud of anybody in my life. The way Arch battled through what he had to go through last year, and the way he played the last eight or nine games of the season.”
Fans reacted to Archie’s comments, with some believing Arch wasn’t up to the challenge.
“He’s highly paid. It comes with the territory. Toughen up,” wrote one fan
“Arch is trash Only getting this attention because his last name 💀 MANNING,” claimed someone else
“So the question arises, why are they crowing him again this year? He did nothing special last year!,” asked one person
“Arch is mediocre…hes been on campus 4th yr and hes mediocre…sheeesh,” said someone
Others thought the press was overhyping Manning once more.
“Are we not doing the same thing again this year?,” asked another fan
A few fans did side with the Mannings.
“Actually very true. Arch has said little and has been very humble in his playing career. Media create everything,” explained one individual
“A national championship with Arch there should be the goal and expectation. I won’t be shocked if they disappoint and don’t win this season or in 2027 if he returns for that season.” claimed someone
Arch Manning’s 2025 season
Arch Manning entered the 2025 preseason as the clear favorite for the Heisman Trophy, on the back of strong media support from the likes of Paul Finebaum. However, he had a mediocre season.
Manning led Texas to an on-paper good 10-3 record, but the Longhorns missed the College Football Playoff, and his season was a statistical struggle. He threw for 3163 yards, with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His QBR was a middle-of-the-road 78.0.
Despite his struggles last season, he remains the preseason favorite for the 2026 Heisman Trophy.
