Terrion Arnold breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as the Tampa Bay Court granted the 23-year-old a $1,000,000 bond, denying the state’s requests to keep him in jail until the impending trial.
However, Arnold’s temporary win was short-lived as the Detroit Lions announced their decision to waive the standout cornerback shortly after the hearing was complete.
Now, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has come to his star recruit’s defense, filing a character reference letter in favor of the 23-year-old cornerback. According to a report by Bama247, the letter addressed Arnold’s ‘humility and kindness’ as well as his ‘integrity and respect for others.’
Saban also spoke on Arnold’s nature, claiming he never engaged in any behavior that could be described as aggressive or irresponsible during his time at Alabama.
“Over the years, I have welcomed Terrion into my home and around my family. He has consistently treated my family and my staff with respect, humility and kindness. In all the time I have known him, he never once gave me cause to question his conduct, his integrity, or his respect for others. I don’t ever recall him being involved in any behavior that would be described as aggressive or irresponsible.
“Based on my experiences with Terrion, I remain committed to supporting him. While I’m not overly familiar with or educated on the charges he is facing, and understand the seriousness of his situation before the court, I would respectfully ask the Court to take into account my experience with Terrion, his character, history and the positive impact he had on our program.”
Arnold spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide from 2021 to 2023 and had developed a close relationship with Saban and his wife, Miss Terry.
Terrion Arnold’s History With Alabama
Arnold joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. The Tallahassee native picked Saban’s squad over offers from Auburn, Arizona State, and Arkansas.
Over his time with Alabama, Terrion formed a close bond with Nick Saban’s wife, Miss Terry, with the former national championship-winning coach once describing their dynamic as the ‘momma who’s always trying to make them happy.’
“Her and Terrion are really kind of buddies,” said Saban, breaking out into a chuckle. “I know she sort of texts with him and all that. I kind of get on him. It’s just kind of like raising your children. I’m the guy that’s always trying to get them to do right, and she’s the momma who’s always trying to make them happy. That’s the way it’s been for a long time.”
Arnold also spoke on Miss Terry’s support for him during the 2024 NFL draft combine.
“She texted me right before I came out here, I told her ‘it was just like another game. She said ‘you should be blessed, you’re highly favored.’
While the 23-year-old was permitted by the court to practice with the team without the need for an ankle monitor, the NFL is still undecided on its verdict and the matter is ‘under review’, per a spokesperson.
