Shelton opened his 2026 season at the ASB Classic, where his run ended at the quarterfinal after losing to Sebastian Baez. The latter secured a two-straight-set (7-5, 6-3) win. Now, the American is turning his attention to the first major, where he will meet Ugo Humber in the opening round.
The 23-year-old recently sat for a photoshoot for the tournament, posting a bunch of pictures on his Instagram. In the shots, he is seen sitting among brightly colored AO tennis balls in a relaxed and stylish pose, sporting an outfit by ON.
The pictures drew Rodman’s attention, prompting her to repost them on her Instagram story, with a heartfelt two-word message expressing how much she missed him. She wrote:

The couple recently spent some memorable moments together in New Zealand during Shelton’s ASB Classic run. Rodman recently confirmed that she won’t be present at the Australian Open, sharing a picture from their date night on Instagram. She said it was their last night together before he left for his Australian Open campaign.

Ahead of his ASB Classic campaign, Ben Shelton spoke to The New Zealand Herald, reflecting on his progress over the past year. He opened up about witnessing improvements in his game in 2025 as compared to the 2024 season.

“This year was a big step for me. I improved a lot in 2025 compared to 2024. And, for me, it’s not just about the results. It’s more about what I find in my game, the things I discover in my tennis, so there is much to build on from this year.”
He further expressed his admiration and understanding of the sport, adding:
“This is an interesting sport. You reach new goals, plateau, drop pace, and have to pick it up again. Perhaps an injury sets you back, and you have to return to the level you were at. It’s never a straight line, but it certainly is what I hope for. Physical condition is an important aspect to focus on.
“You have to come to Australia and New Zealand in shape because, obviously, it’s summer, and simply become a more complete player, trying to have fewer gaps or weaknesses in my game.”
