Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently reacted to the Nebraska vs Austin volleyball match becoming the most-watched. He is one of the biggest supporters of women’s sports and is investing in different women’s professional leagues all over the world.
The 2026 opening LOVB game was held between the LOVB Nebraska and LOVB Austin on Wednesday, January 7. This match was dominated by Austin, who claimed a 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9) win. This game broke all LOVB records as it became the most-watched broadcast on record.
This news was shared by a media channel on Instagram. The post’s caption read:
“Bump. Set (record). Spike.
LOVB Nebraska vs Austin record
This caught the attention of the former tennis player’s husband. He made his feelings known about this record by sharing a pumped-up reaction in the comment section. He wrote:
“LFG.”

This isn’t the first time Ohanian has been seen so excited by a women’s sports success. He himself has found a women-only track and field event, ‘Athlos,’ and recently, in an interview, he made his feelings known about his take on women’s sports. Admitting that there is so much space for growth in women’s sports, he said that there will be billion-dollar teams.
“And I think there is still so much more room to grow in women’s sports. I think we will absolutely see billion-dollar women’s sports teams. My tweet about how undervalued women’s professional sports were in March of ’19 went viral for all the wrong reasons, right? I said, ‘This is a massive opportunity,'” Ohanian said.
Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian On Investing in Women’s Sports
In August 2025, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, sat for a conversation with CNBC. Here, he shared his opinion about investing in women’s sports. Admitting that women’s sports is not a ‘charity,’ he said that he is glad that he invested in it. He also spoke about the huge business opportunities it holds and highlighted that it does not yet have a massive audience like the Big Four Leagues.
“Women’s sports is not a charity. Women’s sports, the reason I’ve been investing in it the last five years, is because it is a tremendous business opportunity, so I’m glad we’re talking about the revenue. Yes, traditional big four sports leagues make that eye-popping dollar from media deals. But why? Because they have massive audiences that are tuning in, and the media companies can then expect to sell those rights to advertisers who make their money,” said Serena Williams’ husband.
Further speaking about what it takes to build a league from scratch, he added:
“When you’re an emerging league, it is very, very, very hard to solve that chicken-egg problem because you don’t yet have a league. By definition, you’re building it from scratch, and so you’re not going to have a meteorite steal that’s going to have anything close to an eye-popping number. So our strategy was, okay, go to where the money is, brand partnerships.”
Serena Williams’ husband started the Athlos meet in 2025. It takes place in mid-September at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.
