Russian WTA star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova shared her opinion on Naomi Osaka’s Grand Slam outfits going viral.
Osaka’s latest outing on the court came at Wimbledon, where she progressed to the quarterfinals before losing to Karolina Muchova (7-6(4), 6-4) on July 7. Along with her strong run at the All England Club, she also stunned the crowd with her outfits, following her Eiffel Tower-inspired look at the French Open.
Speaking to TennisBolshe on Monday, Pavlyuchenkova said Osaka’s fashion choices are designed to attract attention.
“She definitely wants attention, because I think when you go out in such outfits, you can’t say later no, no, I don’t need attention. Her results have been much better now than before, but nevertheless she still doesn’t reach semifinals or even the second week, yet people still talk about her,” Pavlyuchenkova SAID.
She added:
“I respect her for that and whoever is on her team, who came up with that or maybe she did it herself, because all they talk about is her outfit, even when she only played in the first round.”
During her opening match at Wimbledon, Naomi Osaka arrived wearing an all-white kimono-inspired ceremonial robe designed by Tokyo-based designer Hana Yagi. Underneath, she wore a custom Nike kit, inspired by the Japanese art of kirigami, featuring custom woven pleats and seven 3D floral appliques along the side.
The Nike kit, priced at $185 on the brand’s website, sold out within hours of its online release, even before she debuted it on the grass.

In the 2026 Australian Open, Naomi Osaka made her first-round entrance in a jellyfish-inspired outfit, designed by Robert Wun. While many fans praised the look, others criticized it as ‘classless.’ Responding to the backlash, she penned a bold message on Instagram Threads, shutting down her haters by making it clear that her fashion choices are for herself and not for others.
“There’s a demographic that’s been talking about “traditional” tennis outfits and calling me classless for what I wear. To be honest I see it for what it is. I don’t do this for them though, they will never get it and I don’t want them to. I do this for the people that are like me,” Naomi Osaka wrote.
