How Petra Kvitova’s Attack Influenced Marketa Vondrousova’s “Refusal” To Take Doping Test: Full Horrific Incident Explained

Markéta Vondroušová is facing a serious doping investigation and a possible suspension after she failed to submit a sample check in 2025. Her refusal to take the test was influenced by Petra Kvitova’s attack in her Prostejov apartment in 2016.

The entire fuss commenced after Vondroušová refused to submit a sample during a check at her Prague home in December 2025. She is now charged with refusing a doping test, which could lead to a ban of up to four years. The tennis player has come out in her defense, stating that she did not intentionally avoid the test but rather felt threatened by a doping officer who, after repeated requests by the player, did not authorize their identity.

This led to the player thinking that anyone could enter her apartment, and she refused to let the doping officer enter her home. Her lawyer, Jan Exner, called out the official’s behavior, stating it was ‘inappropriate,’ and recalled the horrific incident that happened with Kvitova in her Prostejov apartment. In 2016, the latter was severely injured in a knife attack in her home by intruder Radim Zondra, who posed as a maintenance worker.

The attack caused deep injuries to her four fingers and her left playing hand, and she had to undergo surgeries. She returned to the court after five months. This incident instilled fear among tennis players and Vondroušová, too, which made her stop the official from entering her home.

Citing this incident and the Czech’s current situation with her left shoulder, her lawyer said that this triggered an ‘acute stress’ in the player’s reaction.

“All of this triggered an acute stress reaction in Marketa, which we have confirmed as part of the case resolution by several experts, including foreign experts. The fact that the doping control did not take place was due to the fact that she did not control herself at that moment. She did not know what she was doing and only realized it calmly when her boyfriend returned. The protocol was not followed, but Marketa had the best reasons for it,” said Vondroušová’s lawyer.

Vondroušová is dealing with a doping problem. She is accused of not submitting a sample. She faces up to four year suspension.

What did Markéta Vondroušová say about the incident that might lead to a four-year ban?

After being charged with refusing a doping test, Markéta Vondroušová said that the incident occurred because she reached her ‘breaking point.’ She revealed that after everything that happened with Petra Kvitova, she doesn’t allow strangers into her home. Opening up about how her reaction was valid to the officer not revealing her identity, she said:

“The recent doping control incident happened because I reached a breaking point after months of physical and mental stress. Experts confirmed I suffered an Acute Stress Reaction and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. In that moment, fear clouded my judgment and i just couldn’t process the situation rationally. After what happened to Petra, we don’t take strangers at our door lightly,” said Markéta Vondroušová.

The player also said that she has taken multiple tests in her career, and she had no reason but genuine ones to not take the test. Just three days after this, she took the test, and, opening up about it, she said:

“It was a different lady; she showed her ID, and everything went smoothly. For me, it really wasn’t about avoiding the test or hiding something. I’ve taken an awful lot of tests in my life and everything was always fine.”

While the investigation is ongoing, Markéta Vondroušová is free to play, and her most recent appearance on the court was at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she played in the doubles qualifiers match.
