Carlos Alcaraz Urged To Copy Novak Djokovic By Former UCLA Captain After Jannik Sinner Loss

Former player Spencer Segura recently shared his take on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s latest match. He shared advice for the Spaniard, urging him to copy Novak Djokovic’s style if he wants to beat the Italian.

Alcaraz and Sinner locked horns in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters on April 12 on Court Rainier III. Sinner stunned Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3.

Their performance was discussed by Jimmy Connors and Segura in the latest episode of the “Connors Advantage” podcast. Segura, who played collegiate tennis for the UCLA Bruins, shared advice for Alcaraz to beat Sinner. Opening up about how the World No. 2 can copy Djokovic’s technique of defeating the Italian, he said:

“I think he said, but I think you look at the way Djokovic had beat Sinner, the way he had taken the ball on the rise, anything he could do with moving up on him, hitting the ball early. I think that’s what Alcaraz has got to do. I think this guy’s a huge hitter, Sinner. If you’re gonna rally from the baseline or two feet back, I think I said it last time, I think he’s just got too big a game. I think if you look forehand to forehand, backhand to backhand, I don’t know about backhand to backhand, I think he’s got a bigger forehand than Alcaraz in terms of in depth into the court when he’s back. So he’s got to come and take the ball early on this guy and attack and use angles and things like that.”

    He added:

“And if he doesn’t, I think if Sinner serves well, it’s going to be very hard for him. When Sinner misses his first serve, that’s when Alcaraz really does well. He moves up on the second, attacks the second. That I think he’s got to do consistently.”

Carlos Alcaraz praised Jannik Sinner after their Monte-Carlo final

After losing in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters, Carlos Alcaraz spoke about Jannik Sinner’s performance at the trophy ceremony. The Spaniard congratulated his opponent for the stellar win.

Praising the World No. 1 for winning the Miami Open and Monte-Carlo Masters back-to-back, Alcaraz called his performance ‘incredible.’

“I need to start with Jannik. I mean, it’s impressive. It’s impressive what you are achieving right now as far as I’m concerned, just one man in the open air. I just want, you know, the sun’s double and then Monte Carlo, and you are the second one to achieve like it’s something incredible. And I just experienced how difficult it is, you know, to make that happen. So it’s just congratulations for everything, for the work you’re doing with your team,” said Carlos Alcaraz.

He further congratulated him for winning the title in front of his family and team, saying:

“And just, I could see, you know, almost your whole family here. A lot of staff on your team, just really, really happy to see you winning titles in front of them. So congratulations to you. And of course with your family and team.”

After losing the Monte-Carlo Masters, Carlos Alcaraz competed at the Barcelona Open, where he withdrew in the second round due to a wrist injury.
