Jessica Pegula Or Novak Djokovic Won’t Win Australian Open 2026: Andy Roddick’s Unfiltered SF Predictions

The semifinals are set at the 2026 Australian Open. In men’s singles, Novak Djokovic will face two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner, while Carlos Alcaraz will take on Alexander Zverev. In women’s singles, the last remaining American, Jessica Pegula, will clash with Elena Rybakina, while World No. 1 Aryan Sabalenka will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

Djokovic said he was lucky to advance to the semis after Lorenzo Musetti pulled out of their quarterfinal clash due to an injury. The Italian was leading 6-4, 6-3, 1-3. Sinner cruised past Ben Shelton in straight sets, Zverev took four sets to beat Learner Tien, and Alcaraz overpowered Alex de Minaur to end Australia’s hopes in Melbourne.

In women’s quarterfinals, Pegula and Rybakina swept past Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek, respectively. At the same time, Sabalenka and Svitolina crushed Iva Jovic and Coco Gauff in straight sets.

Former US Open champion Andy Roddick has predicted the winners of these semifinals in the latest episode of his “Served with Andy Roddick” podcast.

Roddick didn’t pick Djokovic and Pegula to win their respective matches.

“I don’t know. I still think it almost got crazy. It was almost 1, 2, 3, 5 [men’s rankings]. I think I like Sabalenka and Rybakina, and I like Carlos and Jannik,” he said.

Novak Djokovic is Chasing a Record-Extending 11th Australian Open Title, While Jessica Pegula is Chasing Her First

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is seeking another milestone, as he chases an 11th title in Melbourne. The Serb skipped warm-up events in Australia to focus on the Grand Slam and has now reached his record 54th Grand Slam semifinal. Djokovic will face arguably his biggest test against Sinner, who looks calm, composed, and ready to exploit any errors in their semifinal clash at Rod Laver Arena on Friday.
In contrast, Pegula achieved her best result in Melbourne by dispatching Anisimova in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The 31-year-old American is chasing her first Grand Slam title, having previously reached only one Grand Slam final, at the US Open in 2024. Facing former Wimbledon champion Rybakina will be a significant challenge, and it remains to be seen if Pegula can pull off a surprise to reach her first Australian Open final.
