Novak Djokovic Reacts To Serena Williams’ Possible Comeback To Tennis

Novak Djokovic is the latest to react to tennis legend Serena Williams’ 2026 comeback rumors. At a press conference at Indian Wells, Djokovic was asked to comment on the comeback rumors surrounding the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

“I guess the sentiment is that she’s coming back, and where and how, singles, doubles, we don’t know. And if I were in her position, I would hide it, too. So, but it’s, yeah, everybody’s excited, and it’s definitely something that is very highly anticipated. So, you know, let’s see,” Djokovic said.

“I think she might maybe play a doubles tournament or two with Venus. That would be nice to see, from my point of view and from tennis fans’ point of view, for sure. Yeah, I mean, she’s one of the greatest athletes, really. So it’s great. It would be great to have her back,” he added.

Williams sparked comeback rumors last December as her name appeared on the International Registered Testing Pool (IRTP). She became eligible to compete on the WTA tour on February 22. The former World No. 1 has yet to reveal which tournament she will make her potential comeback in.

While Williams keeps the tennis fraternity in a limbo over her return to the sport, the veteran Serb, who reached the Australian Open final last month, is eagerly waiting to get back on court and compete in his maiden ATP event of the year, the BNP Paribas Open.

Novak Djokovic Will be Eyeing a Dominant Run at Indian Wells

Djokovic played no warm-up events before the Australian Open and yet reached the summit clash in Melbourne. Despite losing the final to Carlos Alcaraz, the Serb took away a lot of positives from the event, as he registered a historic win over World No. 2 Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.

Now, back in the top-3 of the ATP rankings, a calm and collected Djokovic will be hoping to produce a good run at the Indian Wells Open (Masters 1000), which is set to feature all the top names in men’s tennis. The tournament is often referred to as the fifth Grand Slam of the season.
