Carlos Alcaraz’s former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has said he wants to hug the World No. 1 and hold a conversation with him to clarify a few things after their split. The former player also revealed why he unfollowed the 22-year-old on social media.
Alcaraz announced the end of his long-term partnership with Ferrero in December 2025, shocking many in the tennis world. They started working together when the seven-time Grand Slam champion was just 15. He won six of his Majors and achieved the World No. 1 ranking under Ferrero.
Alcaraz played his first Major without Ferrero at the 2026 Australian Open and won, becoming the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam. He defeated Novak Djokovic in the title clash.
Speaking to Josep Pedrerol on El Cafelito, Ferrero said (via LaSexta):
“I don’t follow him because I need a little time to separate myself from him. Besides, if I look at Instagram, he pops up everywhere. In the end, I haven’t achieved anything. You follow tennis accounts and tournament accounts, and it’s the same.”
“I didn’t do it out of spite. I want to see him and give him a hug . To normalize everything that’s happened, I think we still need to have a conversation. I’d like that,” he added.
Carlos Alcaraz Reveals Reason For His Perfect Start to the 2026 Season
Turning pro in 2018, Carlos Alcaraz registered the best start to his season this year. He is 12-0 at the moment, having won the Australian Open and the ATP 500 Qatar Open.
Ahead of his first match at the Indian Wells Open, the Spaniard attended a press conference and reflected on his dream start to the season, saying (via ATP Tour):
“I think on the court, I control my emotions even better. I would say that was the key of the good level of tennis that I have been playing lately. Because on the court, I just control myself, and in a calm place, I can find the solutions.”
“When I was getting mad or when I was playing bad or whatever, I just found the right way again, because I was calm. I was controlling myself and controlling my emotions, and I was maintaining my good focus. I would say I was doing that even better than before,” he added.
Alcaraz is at Indian Wells for the first Masters 1000 tournament of the season, the BNP Paribas Open. The top seed will face either Grigor Dimitrov or Terence Atmane in the Round of 64 on Saturday, March 7.
