Naomi Osaka Issues Unfiltered Takedown Of Critics Calling Her Australian Open Style ‘Classless’

Along with her stellar tennis skills, Naomi Osaka is also trending for her fashion choices at the Australian Open 2026. She recently wore a jellyfish-inspired attire, which garnered a lot of love but also attracted criticism. The Japanese player recently took a jab at the haters by replying to their criticism with a sharp message.

Osaka wore the jellyfish-inspired outfit at her first-round entrance at the Australian Open — one crafted by designer Robert Wun. This idea took shape after her two-year-old daughter, Shai, eagerly showed her a picture of a jellyfish. This stunning look was loved by her fans; however, some critics did not fail in attacking her style by calling it ‘classless.’

The former World No. 1 knew exactly how to shut down her haters. She did not let the criticism linger by responding with a bold and unapologetic message on Threads. Stating that she doesn’t do it for others but for herself and her fans, she wrote:

“There’s a demographic that’s been talking about “traditional” tennis outfits and calling me classless for what I wear. To be honest I see it for what it is. I don’t do this for them though, they will never get it and I don’t want them to. I do this for the people that are like me,” wrote Naomi Osaka.

Osaka is now into the third round of the Australian Open, having beaten Antonia Ruzic and Sorana Cirstea.

Naomi Osaka opened up about her health update at the Australian Open 2026

Coming into the 2026 season, Naomi Osaka faced a slow start at the United Cup as she was suffering from a viral illness. Highlighting this concern, she was asked about her health update in the press conference after her second-round matchup against Sorana Cristea at the Australian Open. (2:20 onwards)

“It’s kind of a reoccurring thing. So, I guess if you look at my medical history, you can maybe like do like a little guessing game. But, yeah, I think, for me, I’m just really glad that I kind of pushed through it. And also played like really good tennis in the third set. So, I try to just leave the tournament site with that in mind for the next days,” said Naomi Osaka.

Further in her conversation with the media, she was also asked about the frosty handshake incident that took place between her and her second-round opponent, Cristea. Naomi Osaka will compete against Madison Inglis in the third round of the Australian Open on January 24 at the Rod Laver Arena.
