Naomi Osaka Moved Beyond Words After Stunning Australian Open Nike Outfit Goes ‘Sold Out’ In First Retail Release

Naomi Osaka was happy to share that the jellyfish-inspired outfit she wore for the pre-match fit at the 2026 Australian Open had sold out. Osaka collaborated with Nike to design this outfit for the first Slam of the year. The outfit included a pleated miniskirt worn over wide-leg trousers, a wide-brimmed hat with a sheer white veil and a white parasol, and a watery turquoise and green palette.

On Wednesday, Osaka took to Threads and shared that Nike made her outfit available for audiences to buy, and it has already sold out, meaning the reception from the fans was overwhelming.

“🥲❤️ you have no idea how much it means to me that you guys liked this dress. My first tennis dress Nike ever brought to retail and it sold out, I’m so honored!” she wrote on Meta’s platform.

After she stunned the fans with her custom outfit, Osaka explained that the idea came from a personal moment with her young daughter. While reading a children’s book, she showed her 2-year-old daughter, Shai, an image of a jellyfish. Her daughter’s excitement for the same inspired her to create this outfit with Nike.

“Honestly, I realize I’m a little strange because I don’t really think I care,” the four-time Grand Slam winner said. “For me, I just feel like I want to do things that create joy and happiness. For me, obviously, I really love fashion. That makes me excited to wake up and do the whole, like, walk-on or whatever. It just creates a little bit more joy in that whole match preparation.”

Osaka also shared the feeling she got when she made her entrance at the Australian in that outfit.

“I feel like when I step on the court, I’m not the me that you’re talking to right now,” she told reporters. “I almost feel like I’m a Barbie that dresses up and goes on the court and does something. When I come back in the locker room is when I’m like my true quiet Naomi.”

Naomi Osaka’s Inspiration Behind Bringing Fashion to Tennis

Naomi Osaka isn’t the only one who has mixed fashion with tennis. Before her, the likes of Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams also used to turn heads with their pre-game fits.

“I grew up with the GOATs of style — Serena, Venus, Sharapova,” she said. “I think it all comes down to personality, too. I don’t expect someone that’s really reserved to freaking put a veil on their head and go out and play their match. But I think people, I don’t know, you see bits of personality.”

Meanwhile, Osaka’s run at the Australian Open came to an end in the third round as she withdrew just before her scheduled encounter against Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis. She withdrew because of her left abdominal injury that worsened during the warm-ups.
