When it comes to fashion and tennis, few have embraced the combination as well as Naomi Osaka. The four-time Grand Slam champion uses her outfits to tell a story during her Grand Slam entrances. This has, in turn, made her popular among fashion enthusiasts as well.
During her press conference in Washington for the 2026 DC Open, Osaka opened up about how her fashion game has earned her fans from a completely different profession.
“Then people are knowing me now for the fashion stuff more than the tennis, like fashion enthusiasts more than tennis fans,” Osaka said.
Osaka has, on many occasions, said she was an introvert. She got 100 percent real about how her fashion sense has allowed her to meet people and how it has “forced” her to speak “a lot more” to people with whom she wouldn’t ordinarily interact.
“Doing the fashion stuff has made me talk to people that I’ve never met before and things like that. I’m just trying to go into worlds that I’ve never imagined myself sort of being in before.”
Naomi Osaka Opens Up On Difficulty Moving On Following Wimbledon Heartbreak
Naomi Osaka made her best return at the All England Club this year by reaching the quarterfinal, where she was defeated by Karolina Muchova, 6-7(4), 4-6.
As she prepares for the upcoming North American hard court swing, she said moving on from Wimbledon has been difficult.
“Maybe for like a couple of days or so, I was just really disappointed in myself,” Osaka said. Maybe that’s just my mindset, because I’m so hard on myself. Obviously if someone gets that far in Wimbledon, it’s something to be happy about, but for me, I really felt it was my time to do something.”
With Osaka returning to hard court, her fortunes are expected to turn for the better given how well she performs on this surface. All four of her Grand Slam titles have come on this surface.
She is the third seed in the upcoming DC Open and has received a first-round bye. In the second round, she will face either Katie Boulter or wildcard Ashlyn Krueger.
The North American swing is extremely important for Osaka, who did really well last season and therefore will have several ranking points to defend. She reached the final of the Canadian Open and advanced to the semifinal of the US Open. So, the upcoming few weeks will be crucial for the 28-year-old to set the tone.
