This week, US President Donald Trump invited members of the Georgia Bulldogs women’s tennis team, who won the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. The women’s team posed for a photo with the Trump administration, and it went viral in no time for the wrong reasons.
In the photo, Trump and the diplomats stood in front, and the women’s championship players were positioned behind them. Because of the heightened frame of all the diplomats, the players were far less visible. As a result, the athletes being honored were literally overshadowed in their own celebration.
Tennis legend Rennae Stubbs took to X and reposted the photo. She made a sarcastic comment to criticize Trump:
“Pretty sure this wasn’t the men’s team, was it??????”
Fans also slammed the Trump administration for downplaying the moment that should have belonged to Georgia women’s championship players.
“Six men blocking the women they’re “honoring” is peak MAGA,” one fan wrote.
“you have to laugh,” another fan mocked.
““Congratulations, champions” and they put it in the back. It looks like a joke,” one fan added.
“me when i definitely respect women’s sports teams: what if we put them behind us so you can barely see them,” one fan commented.
“the women being in the back😭… ?” one fan wrote.
“Wow the White House has gone woke and is now celebrating men succeeding in women’s sports,” one fan joked.
Donald Trump’s Special Mention to Sophia Rojas While Honoring Georgia Bulldogs Women’s Tennis
The Georgia Bulldogs women’s tennis defeated the Texas A&M Aggies women’s tennis 4-0 in the championship match.
During his White House address, Donald Trump honored the Bulldogs team for winning the championship and especially mentioned Sophia Rojas because of her comeback victory after losing the first set.
“Up next are the 2025 NCAA Women’s Tennis Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, who just captured their third national title,” Trump said. “Sophia Rojas sealed this team’s incredible victory, losing the first set before roaring back to dominate the next two and clinch Georgia’s sweep over Texas A&M. And all I can say is, ‘Go Bulldogs.’ That’s a great state, I love that state. Did very well there, too, in the election. You know, I only like the states that I win. So, it’s one of those.”
Along with women’s tennis champs, Trump also honored other college sports winners, including Wake Forest in men’s tennis, Oklahoma State in men’s golf, Texas A&M in women’s volleyball, Youngstown State in women’s bowling, Florida State in women’s soccer and West Virginia in mixed rifle.
