After Roger Federer Steals The Show, Rafael Nadal Confirms Australian Open Return In Surprise Announcement

Twenty-two-time Grand Slam champion and one of the greats of the sport, Rafael Nadal, will be making a surprise appearance at Melbourne Park during the Australian Open.

While many fans would have hoped the Spanish maestro had played an exhibition game with the likes of Roger Federer or Andre Agassi, Nadal is going to join Ashleigh Barty and Dylan Alcott for the Australian Open Night of Legends with Kia on Feb. 1 in Kia Arena.

The event will be celebrating Kia Motors’ 25-year partnership with the Grand Slam and fans will get a rare opportunity to hear from the legends. There will also be live music and at the end some lucky winners will get the chance to win a ticket to watch the men’s finals later that night inside the Rod Laver Arena. The winner will also get the opportunity for a photo session with Nadal.

Nadal has been Kia’s global ambassador for more than two decades, since the two first partnered in 2004. The 14-time Roland Garros champion will share his delightful stories from the Australian Open and how he cemented his legacy in Melbourne Park.

Nadal’s most iconic moment at the Rod Laver Arena came in the 2022 final, when he sealed an unimaginable comeback win over Daniil Medvedev, winning his second Australian Open title.

Another iconic moment came during the 2012 finals when he went toe-to-toe against Novak Djokovic in an epic five-set thriller, but ultimately lost the historic final, which lasted 5 hours and 53 minutes.

It’s Not Roger Federer Who is the Greatest in the Sport, According to Rafael Nadal

In an exclusive interview with El Objetivo, Nadal dropped the gauntlet by making a surprising claim as to who he feels is the best player in the sport. In the interview, when Spanish journalist Anna Pastor asked the Spaniard to reflect on Djokovic’s playing career, he not only praised the Serb but also stated that he had no hesitation in admitting that Djokovic was the best player in the sport.

Frustration lasts the moment of breaking the racket. Then he is again prepared to compete 100%. And that’s why he’s the one who has achieved the most in the history of our sport. The numbers say so, of course. For me, yes. From what I’ve seen,” said Nadal.

Yes, I have no problem. I’ve never had any ego to say things I don’t feel. I think that in the end we can say yes. I’ve been injured in so many great slams, and he hasn’t. But he has had a better body than mine. This also counts,” he added.

Fans at Melbourne Park will be eagerly waiting to watch the legendary Spaniard take to the Kia Arena on the day of the men’s singles final, hoping to get a chance to click a picture with him and hear stories about his legacy and journey at the Australian Open.
