Jannik Sinner is the current World No. 2 in men’s singles tennis and a four-time Major champion. The Italian, spanning large parts of 2024 and 2025, was the top-ranked player as well. However, according to the 24-year-old, becoming a tennis player was never his dream. Instead, he grew up dreaming of becoming a Formula One driver, but the financial situation of his family didn’t allow him to pursue a career in professional racing.
Sinner was in Seoul, South Korea a few days ago for a high-profile exhibition match against reigning World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. In the buildup to the match, the Italian confessed that his family’s lack of financial power cut short his Formula One dream and encouraged him to take up skiing as an alternative because of the fast-paced nature of the sport and the adrenaline rush that it has to offer. Sinner said:
“My dream was always, when I was very young, to become a Formula One driver, or a professional driver. But we never had money in our family so we didn’t even give it a try, so I chose to go with skiing because it gives you a feeling of adrenaline and going fast.”
However, Sinner went on to lay bare his appreciation for ultimately choosing tennis, with his career so far in the sport having been a stellar one. The Italian added:
“But I’m also very happy with what I ended up, with tennis. It’s great, so I really appreciate it.”

Sinner finished the 2025 tennis season on a euphoric high, as he successfully defended his ATP Finals crown by coming out on top against Alcaraz in the final.
