Carlos Alcaraz will enter the 2026 Australian Open to become the youngest tennis player in men’s history to complete a career Grand Slam. Currently, that record belongs to fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who achieved the feat after winning the 2010 US Open at the age of 24 years 101 days.

Alcaraz already has two Roland Garros, two US Open and two Wimbledon titles, but when it comes to the Australian Open, he has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, his top rival, Jannik Sinner, has two Australian Open titles.

Recently, tennis stars gathered at Melbourne Park, including Alcaraz, Roger Federer, and Sinner. There, Alcaraz expressed his wish that he would like to trade one of his hard-fought Roland Garros titles for one of Sinner’s Australian Open titles.

“I would trade Australia for Roland-Garros with Jannik,” Alcaraz said via ESPN. “I would trade that, to be honest.”

Meanwhile, when Sinner was asked if he would love to win a Roland Garros to complete his career Grand Slam, the Italian replied:

“It’s definitely a motivation,” Sinner said. “We will push a lot to be ready to perform my best at every tournament and be ready for the most important matches. That’s what I want.”

Roger Federer Chimes In On Carlos Alcaraz Possibly Completing Career Grand Slam

Roger Federer completed his career Grand Slam in 2009 when he finally won the French Open, a title that had eluded him largely because of Rafael Nadal’s presence. Before he won his first title at Roland Garros, Federer had already won five US Open titles, five Wimbledon championships, and three Australian Open titles. Thus, it took a long time for Federer to reach that feat.

As per the Swiss pro, it would be “crazy” to witness Alcaraz completing the career Grand Slam at such a young age.

“But it’s true, at his young age, to be able to complete the career Grand Slam already now, I mean, would be crazy. … I hope he does because for the game, that would be an unbelievable special moment,” Federer said Thursday.

Alcaraz will have his own set of challenges while taking the court at Melbourne Park. He parted ways with longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, with whom he had trained since he was 15 years old. It remains to be seen if Alcaraz can move beyond the quarterfinals this year in Melbourne Park.
