Tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have made starkly different headlines on the same day, garnering reactions from the tennis world that could not have been more different. While Alcaraz’s latest health update got the tennis world rallying behind the ATP No. 2, Sinner has faced criticism following his threats to boycott the upcoming mixed doubles at the US Open amid a pay dispute.
Alcaraz suffered a severe injury to his right wrist during his match at the Barcelona Open earlier this year and has been out of action since. Now, two months on, the Spaniard has made great progress in his recovery, as the seven-time Grand Slam champion was recently seen running without a brace on his right wrist.
The sight has sent relief across social media, where fans reacted positively to the update and expressed hope for a return.

For now, the Spaniard has decided not to defend his Wimbledon runner-up status this year but might appear at the US Open.
Elsewhere, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has faced criticism for threatening to boycott the US Open’s mixed doubles event this year amid an ongoing revenue-sharing dispute. Sinner is one among many elite players who have questioned the Grand Slam organizers for failing to distribute the tournament’s revenue fairly.
The Italian, however, faced criticism online, where some fans have labeled Sinner’s boycott stance as “performative” and pointed out that similar absences in the past had no impact on the tournament’s overall success.
A user reacted by saying:
“Lmaooooooooooo performative”
Another user wrote:
“No offence but this is absolutely nothing revolutionary at all. Him and coco both didn’t play last year and the tournament was still a hit 🤷♂️🤷♂️”

“How can you boycott a potential $1m prize for a leisure-level exhibition? These guys are so lost in this whole “protest”…”
Wimbledon has announced a 20% increase in its total prize money for 2026, and it remains to be seen if the US Open has something similar that could ultimately bring an end to this dispute.
Carlos Alcaraz Talks About His Rivalry With Jannik Sinner
Both Alcaraz and Sinner have been longtime rivals on the court but have managed to maintain an equally respectful relationship off the court, grounded in admiration and mutual respect.
During an interview, Alcaraz said that the thought of going up against Sinner has always motivated him to improve.
“The rivalry I have with Jannik, it is in my mind every day. Every time I step on the court for practice, I’m thinking, ‘Okay, what should I do to be better? What should I do when I’m going to face Jannik the next time? So I practice that, and I think this rivalry is really beautiful, and I’m really grateful for having him around,” he said.
The pair last faced off at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters in the final, where Sinner defeated the Spaniard to claim his first major clay-court Masters 1000 title.
