Jessica Pegula, Sloane Stephens & Others Send Courage to Lindsey Vonn After Positive Winter Olympics Update Despite Injury

Despite tearing her left ACL, ski racing star Lindsey Vonn has shared a positive update regarding her playing status in the upcoming Winter Olympics. Just a week before the start of the Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Vonn suffered a complete rupture of her left ACL in a crash at a World Cup downhill race.

On Tuesday, she took to Instagram and confirmed that she’ll be participating in the Games. She informed her followers that she has skied since the injury and feels confident about her Olympic participation with the help of therapy and support.

“After extensive consultations with doctors, intense therapy, physical tests as well as skiing today, I have determined I am capable of competing in the Olympic Downhill on Sunday,” Vonn said. “Of course I will still need to do one training run, as is required to race on Sunday, but… I am confident in my body’s ability to perform. Despite my injuries my knee is stable, I do not have swelling and my muscles are firing and reacting as they should. I will obviously be continuing to evaluate with my medical team on a daily basis to make sure we are making smart decisions but I have every intention of competing on Sunday.”

Vonn said she won’t give up even though her chances to win are significantly less now. She also shared her gratitude to all those who wished her well for recovery.

“I know what my chances in these Olympics were before this crash, and even though my chances aren’t the same now, there is still a chance. And as long as I have a chance, I will not lose hope. I will not give up! It’s not over yet! Thank you to everyone who has reached out and supported me. I feel the love and it is giving me strength. 🙏🏻💪🏻🇺🇸”

Under the comments section, several well-known figures lauded the Olympian’s encouraging update and inspirational spirit to not back down after such an injury.

Lindsey Vonn Talked About Her Injury

In her update on Instagram, Lindsey Vonn shared she completely tore her ACL on Friday, sustained a bone bruise, and had meniscal tears. However, she doesn’t know how much of that injury came from the crash, as there could also be some existing problems with her knee.

Vonn plans to enter the women’s downhill event and will test her knee in training runs before the competition. Doctors and her training team have worked with her after the ACL tear, and she’s already been back on skis.

It remains to be seen if Vonn, one of the most decorated alpine skiers in history, indeed is able to participate at the Games.
