Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys and other co-hosts on The Player’s Box podcast reacted to Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, becoming the highest-earning female soccer player after she signed a new contract with the Washington Spirit.
Following a lengthy negotiation, Rodman signed a new long-term contract extension with the Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) that will keep her with the club through the 2028 season. The deal is reportedly worth approximately $1 million per year in salary and could exceed $2 million, depending on bonuses. When the negotiations were not going well, Rodman was also attracting offers from European clubs, but in the end, she’s staying in NWSL.
On Tuesday, Pegula shared the news on The Player’s Box podcast with her co-hosts, including Madison Keys, Jenny Brady and Desirae Krawczyk.
“Her salary is $1 million,” Pegula said (37:00). “She’s staying in D.C. Um, highest-paid female soccer player in the world, which is pretty crazy. I guess she got what she thought she was supposed to get paid in the end. Trinity paving the way. She got what she wanted. We love that.”
Keys and others “clocked” the signing in favor of Rodman.
“So clock it,” Keys said.
“We love that Trinity,” other co-hosts added.
Jessica Pegula Defeats Co-Host and Defending Australian Open Champion Madison Keys
On Monday, Jessica Pegula stunned co-host Madison Keys in the fourth round of the 2026 Australian Open. Pegula managed to defeat the defending champion 6-3, 6-4 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals, where she’ll face fellow American tennis star Amanda Anisimova.
Pegula and Keys entered a wager where both were supposed to do some things if they lost. Pegula, the daughter of Buffalo Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula, was supposed to wear Taylor Swift’s Kansas City Chiefs jersey as per the wager if she lost. Swift is the fiancée of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and the Bills’ multiple playoff runs have ended because of Patrick Mahomes & others. Therefore, it would have been an embarrassing scene had she worn the Chiefs jersey.
On the other hand, Keys, who actually lost, would have to eat an apple pie topped with melted cheddar cheese. According to Pegula, the dish is described as a family tradition, but something Keys had called “gross.”
