Jessica Pegula recently won her fourth WTA 1000-level title at the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships. The World No. 5 American defeated Varvara Gracheva, Iva Jovic, Clara Tauson, Amanda Anisimova and Elina Svitolina to win the prestigious annual hardcourt event in the WTA Tour’s Middle East Swing.
The latest addition to her trophy cabinet marked the 31-year-old’s 10th career singles title and she received a total of 880 ranking points. However, despite this, Pegula remains fifth in the WTA Tour’s singles rankings and two places below her career-high ranking of World No. 3.
Also, prior to her arrival in Dubai, Pegula had earned $900,633 in prize money since the beginning of the year courtesy her semifinal finishes at the Brisbane International and the Australian Open. Her success in Dubai added a further $665,000 to her prize money earnings this year, meaning she has made over $1.5 million already this season.
Pegula is widely regarded as a ‘late bloomer’, having become a consistent player and a fixture in the WTA Tour’s elite group of players since she broke into the singles top 10 for the first time in 2022. Following her memorable campaign at the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships, the 31-year-old explained her ‘obsession’ of becoming better at playing tennis.
Jessica Pegula Opens Up About Motivation To Constantly Better Herself
Speaking to Cole Bambini of the official website of the WTA Tour after her Dubai success, Jessica Pegula touched on her commitment to getting better as a tennis player. She also spoke up about the strength and depth of the field in women’s singles tennis right now, saying:
“I’m obsessed with becoming a better player. That’s something that’s kept me at the top of the game — that I always want to improve. I love to compete and I love to win tournaments, but at the end of the day what really motivates me is becoming a better player — every single day. I think with the depth we have in women’s tennis that is something that is key to be able to stay at the top. And I think I’ve really embraced that.”
Pegula also came quite close to winning her maiden Major title at the 2024 US Open, but was denied at the last hurdle by Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning World No. 1. Up next for Pegula is her campaign at the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin, Texas, where she is the top seed and slated to face Rebecca Sramkova from Slovakia in the first round.
