Iga Swiatek New Coach Rumors: Rafael Nadal Recommendation Set To Bring Emma Raducanu’s Ex-Coach Into Struggling Pole’s Team

Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek is reportedly set to begin working with Emma Raducanu’s former coach, Francisco Roig, following a recommendation from Spanish legend Rafael Nadal. Swiatek parted ways with her coach, Wim Fisette, after an underwhelming start to the season, followed by a second-round exit at the Miami Open.

A trophyless start to 2026 is unusual for the Polish star, who has also fallen in the WTA rankings and is currently seeded fourth behind Coco Gauff.

Raducanu announced a mutual split with Roig after a disappointing Australian Open, bringing their partnership to an end in just over six months. Previously, Roig gained fame as Nadal’s assistant head coach for nearly 17 years, during which the 22-time Grand Slam champion consistently praised and thanked Roig for his support.

According to Polish media outlet Przeglad Sportowy Onet, Roig is now expected to join Swiatek in Mallorca on a trial basis, where she will train at the Rafael Nadal Academy as she prepares for the upcoming clay-court season.

Last year, Swiatek struggled on clay, failing to win a WTA event and falling short in her bid to defend her French Open title. This year, however, the four-time Roland Garros champion who idolizes clay-court supreme Rafa, will aim to turn the tide of a dissapointing 2026 in her favor.

Iga Swiatek Will Resume Play In Stuttgart

Swiatek will resume play on tour at the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart, followed by the first WTA 1000 event on clay in Madrid. All the top names in women’s singles have shown a strong willingness to play in both tournaments, which will commence on April 13 (Stuttgart Open) and April 20 (Madrid Open).

The Pole has previously won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in 2022 and 2023 and, is no stranger to the level of intensity and strategic gameplay required to triumph in Stuttgart. It will be interesting to see how her new trial partnership with Roig changes her proceedings for the upcoming swing.
