Frances Tiafoe recently responded to Ben Shelton shortly after the latter jokingly called him a ‘snake’ for lying to him about going to the Rockets game. Tiafoe is currently competing at the ATP Houston, and Shelton’s journey there has just ended.
Tiafoe advanced to the semifinal of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship after a commanding performance throughout the tournament. He outdid Alexei Popyrin in the quarterfinal round, claiming a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(6) victory. On the other hand, Shelton, who was also vying for a spot in the semifinal round, fell short of qualifying after losing to Thiago Agustin Tirante.
After losing the first set, the latter dominated the last two sets of the three-set match, registering a 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 win and ending the American’s journey. Amid this, Shelton playfully called Tiafoe a ‘snake,’ accusing him of attending a Houston Rockets game without inviting him and then reportedly lying about it.
“I actually asked Frances at practice yesterday if he was going to the Rockets game, and he said no. So he’s a snake,” said Ben Shelton.
After his quarterfinal win, Tiafoe gave a fierce reply to a fellow American’s accusation, saying:
“He’s lying out of his a**. He’s lying out of his a**. I never said that, so I’m glad, I’m glad you brought that up. I was waiting when I came on here for y’all to bring that up. I FaceTimed him as soon as I seen it today. I was like, Man, you’re so full of it. It’s probably him getting me back for me calling him part time,” said Frances Tiafoe.
Frances Tiafoe Teases NBA Star Kevin Durant for Leaving His Match Midway
The NBA star Kevin Durant recently attended Frances Tiafoe’s opening match against Rinky Hijikata at the ATP Houston on April 1, 2026. However, he was seen leaving the spectator box amid the third set of the match, and the American did not fall short in pointing it out during his on-court interview. Along with Durant, Rockets players, including Jeff Green and Clint Capela, also came down to watch the match.
Teasing him with a humorous joke, he said:
“I saw KD left when I went three sets. He’s old as hell, so he had to go back and get some rest.”
In addition to this, he thanked the other Rocket players for staying till the end, adding:
“I’m happy, I’m happy Jeff stayed all the way to the end, Clint, as well, so it’s great. You know, shout out to the Rockets. Playoffs are coming up soon. Big NBA fan, so it means a lot of these guys coming out and, and, showing love to our sport and ultimately showing me some love today.”
Frances Tiafoe is now scheduled to compete against Tommy Paul in the ATP Houston on April 4, 2026.
