“Kevin Durant Is Old As Hell” – Frances Tiafoe Teases NBA Superstar After He Leaves Halfway Through Houston 3-Set Thriller

Frances Tiafoe recently took a friendly jab at NBA star Kevin Durant after he left the American’s ATP Houston match in the middle. The Fayez Sarofim & Co. US Men’s Clay Court Championship is scheduled for March 30 to April 5, 2026, at the River Oaks Country Club.

Tiafoe opened his ATP Houston campaign on April 2 in the round of 16 against Rinky Hijikata. The American began the showdown on a stronger note, winning the first set; however, his opponent took the second. The tie-breaker was eventually ruled by Tiafoe, who registered an overall 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory.

Apart from the scoreboard, the thing that garnered attention was the NBA prodigy, Durant, in the audience. While he came to witness the thriller, he did not stay through the entire match and was seen leaving in between. Shortly after wrapping up his opening round, Tiafoe pointed this out, teasing Durant with a humorous joke.

In the on-court interview, he said, laughing:

“I saw KD left when I went three sets. He’s old as hell, so he had to go back and get some rest.😭”

Along with Durant, other Houston Rockets players, including Jeff Green and Clint Capela, also visited the match and stayed till the end. Making his feelings known about this and the upcoming NBA playoffs, Frances Tiafoe added:

“I’m happy, I’m happy Jeff stayed all the way to the end, Clint, as well, so it’s great. You know, shout out to the Rockets. Playoffs are coming up soon. Big NBA fan, so it means a lot of these guys coming out and, and, showing love to our sport and ultimately showing me some love today.”

Frances Tiafoe opened up about competing against Jannik Sinner at the Miami Open

Before starting his campaign at the ATP Houston, Frances Tiafoe competed at the Miami Open, where he advanced to the quarterfinal but fell short against Jannik Sinner, preventing him from moving further in the tournament. The Italian claimed an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win over the American and qualified for the semifinals.

In the post-match press conference, he was asked about his matchup against Sinner, and sharing the details of the same, Frances Tiafoe said:

“No, I mean, for sure. I mean, he’s one of the best ball strikers the game’s ever seen.  I mean, no excuses. I mean, the guy’s he’s a hell of a player. Like, I mean, he’s showed it against everyone. Um, you know, I mean, I wasn’t my sharpest, but he still made me, I mean, he still put me in really, really tough positions. I think the biggest thing I just didn’t give any scoreboard pressure. He’s number one, number two in the world, whatever,” said Frances Tiafoe.
    He added:
“Like, he’s, I mean, great front-runner, and that was the biggest issue today, and getting broken early in both sets. Um, just want to see that match a little different if I get three all, four all, and have him feel me a little bit on the other side of scoreboard pressure, but it’s all good.”

Frances Tiafoe is currently scheduled to compete against Alexei Popyrin in the ATP Houston quarterfinals on April 4.
