“Revoke His Credentials”;”Needs To Lose His License” – Fans Call Out Journalist After Joao Fonseca’s ‘Fake’ Ranking List With Alcaraz, Sinner

Jannik Sinner was lied to by a reporter during his press conference after winning his Round of 16 match against Tomas Machac at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Sinner was told about a false forehand ranking prepared by Joao Fonseca.

According to the reporter, Fonseca ranked him second after Carlos Alcaraz, followed by himself, Matteo Berrettini, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, Sinner had his doubts about the rankings. So, he asked:

“What does it mean the strongest? Efficient on which surface? Surely, a mix between all those names will make a good forehand.”

However, it appears the reporter just made that up with respect to Fonseca’s statement. The Brazilian player never ranked the forehands; he only mentioned the ones he liked. The reporter misrepresented the remarks to Sinner. This is what actually Fonseca said in his press conference:

“Yeah, Berrettini has a huge forehand. When I played him for the first time, it was difficult for me. We were playing indoors and it was Davis Cup and he was hitting the forehand like crazy. And it was difficult to play, it was just like super pressure. And I really felt the ball. But I would say maybe Carlos has a huge forehand. And I think Tsitsipas’ forehand is also pretty solid.”

This kind of false and inaccurate reporting has disgraced the entire media. Fans slammed them in the comments.

“ATP should revoke his credentials,” one fan suggested.

“Usually the worst reporters come at the slams but we have one in Monte Carlo,” another wrote. “A lot of the time reporters are trying to get a quote which is bad enough but to straight up make something up to try and set another player up is a new low and makes all of journalism look bad.”

“João, victim of fake news, and he isn’t even on BBB,” another added.

“journalism is dead bc it’s full of people who are not journalists,” one fan commented

“This journalist needs to lose his license immediately. Why would he make up something like that???” one fan asked.

“Almost like there are reporters in MC out to misrepresent players,” another reacted.

Jannik Sinner Finally Drops a Set in Masters

After 18 Masters matches dating back to the tournament in Shanghai last year, Jannik Sinner finally dropped a set. Against Tomas Machac, Sinner was far from his usual best in the second set, committing 15 unforced errors to fall behind 2-5 in the set. While he rallied to lead the set 6-5, eventually, Machac defeated him in a tie-break.

Despite losing the set, the Italian managed to come out on top in the end, winning the match, 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-3 against the Czech.

“I felt great before the match. In the second set I struggled a bit to find the right energy, but this can happen,” Sinner said. “I tried to push myself through, which I have done. Even when you don’t feel your best, you try to find ways and that was the case today and I am happy. The main priority is to recover.”

After winning both the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open, Sinner made history by accomplishing a “Sunshine Double” without dropping a set. Now, he has set his eyes to becoming only the first person since Novak Djokovic in 2015 to win Miami and Monte-Carlo in the same season. If he’s able to do so, he is sure to reclaim the No. 1 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz.
