Fake Carlos Alcaraz Claim Debunked: Insider Clarifies Press Conference Mishap After Viral Miami Open Defeat Comments

The No. 1 ATP tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, saw his run at the 2026 Miami Open come to an end after his defeat against the USA’s Sebastian Korda in the round of 32 on Sunday. The American tennis player defeated the top seed with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory in two hours and 19 minutes.

Apart from the Spanish star’s defeat, his supposed statements during the press conference made headlines and rounds on social media, which were later cleared by an insider. According to the insider, following Carlos’ defeat, the Spaniard’s statement of losing his motivation and excitement to play was made up.

“Friends, a phrase from Alcaraz in today’s press conference has gone viral, after his defeat in Miami, in which he’s supposed to have said: “I need to feel that desire to go out and play again.” I can guarantee you that Carlos Alcaraz DID NOT SAY that phrase,” the person wrote.

The person highlighted that they went through the whole press conference but did not come across any such statement or any remark resembling the same from the tennis player. The insider further added that a journalist misquoted the Spanish star, which the newspaper used, and clarified that it was all false.

“I’m already trying not to read the comments, because lately, wow, but let me clarify for you all: A journalist who was present in Miami dropped that phrase. The Diario Marca newspaper publishes the story and titles it based on that phrase. It’s normal to believe what they tell us, right? As soon as I watched the full press conference, I checked and confirmed that he doesn’t say that. That’s why I deleted the tweet and in PdB we’ve edited the article, with me clarifying here that that phrase they’re attributing to Alcaraz is a lie, so you know the full reality of everything.”
Sebastian Korda will next lock horns with Martin Landaluce, who advanced to the round of 16 after defeating 14th-seeded Karen Khachanov.

Carlos Alcaraz Reflects On His Last Match At Miami Open While Praising His Opponent

Carlos Alcaraz entered the 2026 Miami Open following his semifinal defeat against Daniil Medvedev at the Indian Wells Masters. Even though Sebastian Korda struggled in the second set and lost five games in a row, the American bounced back in the last set and won the match 6‑3, 5‑7, 6‑4. Alcaraz reflected on the faceoff and praised Korda, stating he gave a tough fight.

“I think it was a tough match, for sure. I think Sebi was incredible today. He played wonderfully. There were many very disputed moments where I just couldn’t capitalize. I think he was better in those points, in those moments. I would say that was the key to the match. So, congratulations to him. I think he deserves it.”

Carlos Alcaraz further mentioned that he would be spending his time with his family and friends after the Miami defeat. He will return to the court when the clay season kicks in, with events in Houston, Charleston, Madrid, and Rome that will build up to the French Open.
