Danielle Collins Welcomes Serena Williams’ Special Support To Coco Gauff After 21 y/o’s Drama-Filled End At Australian Open

Like the rest of the tennis world, Danielle Collins has shown support for Coco Gauff by reposting Serena Williams’ encouraging message for the World No. 3.

Third seed Gauff lost her Australian Open quarterfinal 6-1, 6-2 to 12th seed Elina Svitolina on Tuesday, January 27. The American seemed extremely frustrated throughout the match, but did not react much on the court. However, when she reached the corridors, the 21-year-old searched for a secluded spot and repeatedly smashed her racket. Little did she know that a camera captured her.

Fans, players, and experts were quick to call out the tournament organizers for the lack of private spaces for players. Tennis legend Serena Williams extended her support to her compatriot in a hilarious manner, writing on X:

“Passion. Caring. Matters. Nothing wrong with hating to lose. Now Coco when you want I can show you how to demolish in one swipe… Serena style 🙊 🤷🏾‍♀️.”

Collins agreed with the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Sharing Williams’ tweet on Instagram, Collins wrote:

    “That’s right🧡💜.”

At the press conference after the match, Gauff revealed that she was unaware that a camera was recording her. She firmly said that not everything needs to be broadcast.

“I tried to go somewhere where they wouldn’t broadcast it, but obviously they did. Maybe some conversations can be had, because I feel like at this tournament, the only private place we have is the locker room. I feel like they don’t need to broadcast,” Gauff said (via Yahoo Sports).

“Are We Animals in Zoo?” – Iga Swiatek Stands With Coco Gauff Amid Australian Open Controversy

On her way to the gym earlier this week, Iga Swiatek was made to wait because she forgot her accreditation. Speaking on this and the Coco Gauff incident at a press conference after her quarterfinal loss to Elena Rybakina, Swiatek said (via The Guardian):

“The question is, are we tennis players or are we animals in the zoo where they are observed even when they poop? That was exaggerating, obviously, but it would be nice to have some privacy. It would be nice also to have your own process and not always be observed.”

“I don’t think it should be like that because we’re tennis players, we’re meant to be watched on the court and in the press, that’s our job. It’s not our job to be a meme when you forget your accreditation. It’s funny, for sure, people have something to talk about. But, for us, I don’t think it’s necessary,” she added.

There have been reports that Gauff could be fined $50,000.
