Coco Gauff’s Mother Candi Reacts To Jessica Pegula & Her Daughter Joining Serena Williams & Venus Williams In Rare American Milestone

Coco Gauff’s mother Candi expressed proud on her daughter after she joined the likes of Serena Williams and Venus Williams, two of the best women’s tennis stars American soil has produced.

After Gauff saved three match points to defeat Elise Mertens 2-6, 7-6 (9), 6-3 on Wednesday night and reach the Dubai quarterfinals, she became the youngest women’s tennis star to record 100 WTA 1000 main-draw wins since the format’s introduction in 2009.

As far as American women’s history is concerned, the only players who have accomplished this feat are the Williams sisters, Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula. After registering her victory in the Dubai Tennis Championships, Gauff highlighted her latest accomplishment on  Instagram. Like a proud mother, Candi Gauff reposted the story on her own account.

Coco Gauff Looking Forward to Reaching Her Second Semifinal in Dubai

Coco Gauff hasn’t had a great start to her 2026 season. She exited in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open, followed by Round of 32 loss in Doha. However, she has shown massive improvements in the ongoing Dubai Tennis Championships.

After overcoming the challenge of Elise Mertens, she was relieved to come out victorious after a battle that lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes.

“The whole match felt like it wasn’t going my way,” Gauff said in her on-court interview. “It wasn’t the best, but I just tried to stay in it, and I did fight for every point. I’m happy I was able to get the result today.

“Elise is a great player, so I just had to stay settled. I knew I could win; it was just [a matter] if I could find my game. And I did a little bit at times, and sometimes I didn’t, but it’s OK.”

After she struggled with her second serve in the first set, Gauff almost lost the match in the second set because of her double faults. However, she held on to win the set in the tiebreak. By winning the third set, Gauff has set up a quarterfinals date with Alexandra Eala.

If she wins, it will be her 101st win in the WTA 1000 level and she would have reached her second semifinal in Dubai. It will be an interesting encounter as both players have never played each other before.
