Coco Gauff’s struggles with double faults are far from over. In her recent loss against Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, Gauff had a frustrating moment that gave away her unhappiness with her biomechanics expert, Gavin MacMillan.
McMillan was hired by Gauff before the 2025 US Open. The expert is known to have helped World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Gauff also thought her serving struggles would be behind her under his guidance. However, it’s been six months since, and there has been no noticeable improvement.
The American committed 12 double faults against Svitolina and during a moment in the second set when she committed one of them, she looked back at her box, possibly McMillan, and said:
“I’ve been doing everything you’ve wanted for the last 6 months…”
There was one moment in the game when Gauff smashed her racket on her head after she committed a double fault.
Fans reacted to these moments, with some getting worried about Gauff’s mental state.
“Poor baby. She (nor any other player) should ever hit themselves,” one fan wrote.
“Felt really sad see her do the punches.The coach was just silent Zero tips or tricks to her,” another fan added.

Coco Gauff Had Racket Smashing Moment in US Open As Well
Coco Gauff went viral after she smashed her racket in what was thought to be a private space upon losing to Elina Svitolina in the 2026 Australian Open quarterfinals.
After losing, she didn’t want to show her emotions in front of her team, who is working hard behind the scenes, and the children in Melbourne Park, so that they don’t learn something wrong from her. So, she went to a private space and smashed her racket. However, the broadcasters showed the footage and it went viral.
Svitolina and Gauff met again at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Friday and the results were similar.
Gauff is really struggling with her serve and she has not been able to answer for it. Her hopes of winning her third Grand Slam will be challenging if she can’t do better and reduce her double faults.
