Coco Gauff celebrated her 22nd birthday on March 13. Her mother, Candi, penned a heartwarming message on social media for the World No. 4, which apparently made her emotional.
Candi posted a couple of photos alongside Coco on Instagram, one while cooking together in their kitchen and the other in front of the Trevi Fountain in Italy. In an endearing message for her “firstborn,” Candi advised her on how to live her life. She wrote:
“Happy birthday to my firstborn and FAVORITE daughter! May God continue to guide and order your steps. Keep living, keep going for your goals, allow yourself grace, forgive yourself often, make mistakes, move on from situations that don’t align with your spirit and growth, trust yourself, love, BE, grow, laugh, pause, and most importantly BREATHE!!!”
“Remember these simple statements… This too shall pass, Oh Well!!!, it is what it is, never say die, pause and pray. Remember, I will always be your biggest supporter. I LOVE YOU, Always and forever, MOM,” she added.
The two-time Grand Slam champion shared the post on her stories and used the ‘holding-back-tears’ emoji, as she wrote:
“🥹I love my mom.”

Meanwhile, Coco is recovering from a niggle in the arm, which she picked up at the ongoing BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
“Never Felt a Sensation Like This” – Coco Gauff Weighs In On Her Arm Injury
Facing Alexandra Eala in the third round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, Coco Gauff retired mid-match due to pain in her left arm. The American was trailing 2-6, 0-2, when she stopped playing.
She explained the issue at the post-match press conference, saying:
“It felt like a firework was going off inside of my arm, and then my whole arm felt like it was on fire. We’re going to figure out what it is tomorrow, but based on the feeling, I’m being told that it’s probably something nerve-related. Never felt a sensation like this before.”
However, the World No. 4 remained optimistic about playing in the next big tournament, the WTA 1000 Miami Open, beginning March 17.
“The good news is they don’t think it’s going to be a long-term type of situation, so I should be fine for Miami. We’ve just got to figure out exactly what it is and, I guess, how to prevent it in the future,” she added.
Coco Gauff has won 10 of her 14 matches this season, but has yet to win a title.
