Coco Gauff has reached the Miami Open semifinals, where she will face reigning Qatar Open champion Karolina Muchova on Thursday. This marks the second time Gauff has reached the semifinals of a WTA event this year, after previously making it to the Dubai Open semifinals, where she lost to Elina Svitolina in three sets.
Meanwhile, Muchova is in her third semifinal this season. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the last four of the Brisbane International, but defeated Maria Sakkari in the Qatar Open semifinals. The 29-year-old Czech has been consistent this season, and she aims for her second WTA 1000 title.
Muchova, a former World No. 8, is a seasoned star who has repeatedly showcased brilliance with her masterful gameplay against the top names at the biggest events.
She reached the French Open final in 2023, losing to then-defending champion Iga Swiatek in three sets, and has also reached the semifinals of three different Grand Slams.
Muchova’s first tour title came at the Korea Open in 2019, and after waiting seven long years, she finally claimed her second prize at the WTA 1000 level in Doha earlier this year. The Czech is expected to pose a monumental challenge to Gauff, who is aiming to reach her first WTA final of the year.
Coco Gauff vs. Karolina Muchova Head-To-Head
The reigning Roland Garros champion has a valiant edge over Muchova in their head-to-head battle. It is a one-sided affair, with Gauff leading 5-0. Like their sixth meeting, the previous five have also been on hard courts, with the most recent in the fourth round of the Australian Open, which the American won, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Previously, the duo clashed in the group stage of the 2025 United Cup in Perth, Australia, where Gauff defeated the Czech 6-1, 6-4. Of the remaining three, two of their meetings came in the finals of WTA tournaments: the 2024 China Open and the 2023 Cincinnati Open.
While the stats heavily favor the American, Muchova has serious momentum on her side, with wins over young sensations like Victoria Mboko and Alexandra Eala at the ongoing Miami Open. At the same time, Gauff’s real test came in the quarterfinal against Belinda Bencic, which she won in three sets.
So far in the tournament, Muchova has dropped only one set, in the opening round against Camila Osorio. On the other hand, the two-time Grand Slam champion has gone the distance in all her matches. The match is expected to go to a deciding set on Thursday, with a winner too difficult to call at the moment.
