Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton suffered a drop in rankings this week after the end of the Australian Open, the result of their earlier-than-expected results at the tournament. On the other hand, the likes of Naomi Osaka, Iva Jovic and Learner Tien are on the rise against after decent performances in Melbourne this fortnight.
Gauff came into the Australian Open as the World No. 3, but has now dropped to World No. 5. Champion Elena Rybakina has replaced her at No. 3, while Amanda Anisimova is now the top-ranked woman on the WTA Tour at World No. 4.
Naomi Osaka, who reached the third round, has edged closer to the Top-10, and is now ranked World No. 14. Iva Jovic, who reached her first Slam semifinal in Melbourne, is one of the biggest risers, climbing up seven spots to make it into the Top-20. Defending champion Madison Keys dropped six spots to World No. 15, while Emma Raducanu is now the World No. 30, dropping one spot.
On the men’s side, Ben Shelton also lost two spots in the rankings ladder, falling to World No. 9. Jack Draper, who withdrew from the tournament with an injury, lost two spots as well, and is now the World No. 13. Novak Djokovic, who made the final at the Australian Open, replaced Alexander Zverev as the World No. 3, while quarterfinalist Learner Tien improve five spots to become the World No. 24.
As for the Top-2, the rankings remain unchanged on both sides. Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek lead the WTA side, while Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner continue their dominance on the ATP Tour.
What next for Coco Gauff & Ben Shelton after Australian Open?
This being the week after the Australian Open, Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton are both absent from tennis action, resting instead. The duo will be next in action in the second week of February, however.
Gauff is scheduled to play at the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha next, followed by another WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai. On the other hand, Shelton will kickstart his campaign at the Dallas Open next week, followed by a run at the Delray Beach Open in the fourth week.
Then, they will turn their attention to the Sunshine Double — the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka was in line to play in Doha next week, but withdrew, along with the likes of Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys.
