Carlos Alcaraz is currently making headlines for the reported news of him consulting Rafael Nadal’s miracle doctor, Dr. Angel Ruiz-Cotorro, for his wrist injury. The Spaniard has been away from the court after competing at the Barcelona Open.
Alcaraz’s 2026 season didn’t pan out as expected, as after a smooth start, it faced an abrupt halt following his injury at the Barcelona Open. He opened the tournament on April 14, where he competed against Otto Virtanen, and amid this showdown, he suffered a severe right-wrist injury after hitting a return off a serve.
Even after feeling major discomfort during this match, he managed to finish this game, claiming a 6-4, 6-2 victory. However, he withdrew from the second round against Tomas Machac. Ever since then, he has been recovering and has pulled out from major tournaments, including the Madrid Open, Italian Open, French Open, Queen’s Club, and Wimbledon.
Most recently, a new update on his injury has been shared of him reportedly consulting Nadal’s miracle doctor, Ruiz-Cotorro, for his recovery. The latter was Rafa’s longtime personal physician, immensely credited for managing his career-extending medical recoveries. Javier de Diego, who belongs to the Spanish national radio, RTVE group, recently released a statement of the Spaniard visiting Dr. Cotorro this week.
“Next week will be crucial for Carlos Alcaraz’s recovery. The check-up he will have to undergo in Barcelona with Dr. Cottoro could mark his return to training on the field. If all goes well, he will do a few days of readjustment and then he will starting hitting the ball again,” wrote de Diego.
As revealed in the new Netflix series, Dr. Cottoro played a huge role in Nadal’s win at the 2022 French Open, as he helped the legendary tennis player combat his incurable Muller-Weiss syndrome. He used anesthetic injections to completely numb sensory nerves in Nadal’s foot. This allowed him to play and win his 14th Roland Garros title.
Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his battle with Jannik Sinner for the top spot
After losing to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo Masters, Carlos Alcaraz dropped down to world No. 2, with the Italian replacing him at the top. Following this change, he addressed the media, where he was asked about his thoughts on the update. He took it pretty well and lauded Sinner for his skills and thanked him for always keeping him on his toes.
Stating that he helps him in realizing his weaknesses, the Spaniard said:
“Jannik is one of those players who makes me a better player. He makes me realise my weaknesses, what I really need to focus on in each practice session and each match, so I try to improve every day. It’s great to have him as a focal point and to see him achieving all that he’s achieving,” said Carlos Alcaraz.
Before getting injured and going on a break, Carlos Alcaraz had won three titles in this year so far.
